THE MAKING OF DRUNK ELEPHANT
Before developing Drunk Elephant, Tiffany Masterson was like many of us: frustrated, confused and hopping from brand to brand in search of answers.
“She suffered with mild rosacea, visible pores, you name it Tiffany had it. She tried every ‘miracle’ product she could get her hands on, but nothing ever worked — or, if it did, it didn’t work for long.”
After years of bouncing between categories without success, Tiffany started educating herself on ingredients, formulation and how skin actually behaves.
Rather than chasing trends or empty promises, she focused on what would genuinely support skin health and deliver consistent, long-term results. Drunk Elephant was born in 2012.
WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME DRUNK ELEPHANT
But why the name ‘Drunk Elephant’?
“When Tiffany started researching ingredients, she fell in love with African marula oil. While learning more, she came across a video of elephants eating fallen marula fruit and stumbling around as if drunk.”
The name may be playful, but the formulas are anything but frivolous — combining personality-packed branding with high-performance skincare.
DRUNK ELEPHANT’S SUSPICIOUS 6
As mentioned, Tiffany identified six ingredients she believed were disrupting her skin. Unable to find formulas without them, she created her own.
“At Drunk Elephant we believe your skincare routine is only as good as its worst product, and a product is only as good as its worst ingredient.”
Today, that philosophy feels more relevant than ever: clear formulas, thoughtful ingredient selection and transparency over trend-led noise. The Suspicious 6 are mostly comprised of common sensitizers including fragrance, essential oils, drying alcohols, harsh surfactants, silicones, dyes and chemical sunscreens.
The aim isn’t fearmongering ingredients — it’s creating formulas that respect the skin barrier, minimise unnecessary irritation and let proven actives do the heavy lifting.
DRUNK ELEPHANT’S BIOCOMPATIBILITY PROCESS
When Drunk Elephant was created, the brand became known for choosing effective ingredients — both synthetic and natural — that directly benefit the skin.
Its formulas are designed with efficacious levels of actives, skin-friendly pH levels and textures that absorb beautifully, so every product works smarter, not louder. This concept centres around Drunk Elephant’s biocompatibility philosophy — formulas designed to work in sync with skin, not against it.
“The skin barrier is acidic; it has a pH of around 5.5. With that in mind, you want skincare products to be as close to your skin’s natural pH level.”
THE BEST DRUNK ELEPHANT PRODUCTS
Now we know what makes Drunk Elephant tick, it’s time to meet the formulas that have earned permanent bathroom-shelf status. Think results-driven staples powered by peptides, ceramides, vitamin C and barrier-loving hydrators — the kind of formulas your skin notices.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR DRUNK ELEPHANT
A sharpened focus on efficacy, education and formulas that speak for themselves.
Expect powerhouse ingredients, streamlined routines and products that make skin look better — plain and simple.
Because while the look may evolve, Drunk Elephant’s benchmark for results remains the same: high-performing skincare that delivers real results.
