If you've been dreaming of adding Then I Met You to your skin care rituals, chances are this is the formula that captured your attention. Earning glowing write-ups from the beauty buffs at AllureGlamour and Refinery29, not to mention copious awards - you're looking at Caroline Hirons' Choice for 2020 Product of the Year - the Living Cleansing Balm melts away sunscreen, make up and excess sebum to reveal a perfectly refreshed, calm complexion. The supremely sensorial formula has hints of rosemary, persimmon and grapefruit to delight your senses as vitamin E and plant oils feed your face with antioxidants and fatty acids and free it from impurities. It was all so dull, then we met the Living Cleansing Balm...

    • Description

A staple in the rituals - it transcends the passive act of routine - of beauty editors and skintellectuals alike, Then I Met You's Living Cleansing Balm effortlessly melts away make up, sunscreen and excess sebum while feeding your skin with antioxidants and fatty acids.

The ultimate first cleanse, this sorbet-soft balm is designed to be massaged into skin - pause to appreciate the sensorial notes of rosemary, persimmon and grapefruit - to easily melt away oil-based impurities. It's crafted from a luxurious blend of lightweight plant oils including sea buckthorn oil (adored for its abundance of fatty acids such as stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and omega 6); olive oil (a nourishing antioxidant that boasts anti-inflammatory properties and supports your skin barrier); finally, grapeseed oil (an antioxidant-rich emollient that nourishes as it gently lifts impurities - cue round of applause). It doesn't end with that holy trinity of oils though - it's also laced with persimmon extract to protect your skin from free radicals and promote a brighter tone, plus vitamin E to promote a healthy, youthful finish. We're so glad we met this formula...

    • How to use

For the first step of your double cleanse, use the spatula to scoop a dime-sized amount onto dry skin and gently massage in circular motions. Add a splash of warm water to emulsify and remove oil-based impurities. Rinse thoroughly before moving to step two, a water-based cleanse with the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel.

    • Full ingredients list

Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive), Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil (Grape), Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Peg-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Peg-8 Isostearate, Cera Microcristallina, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil, Ceresin, Synthetic Wax, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Diospyros Kaki Fruit Extract (Persimmon), Aniba Rosaeodora Wood Oil (Rosewood), Citrus Paradisi Peel Oil (Grapefruit), Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil (Rosemary), Tocopheryl Acetate, 1,2-hexanediol, Bis-diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, BHT, Limonene

As there are differences between US and European labelling requirements, you may notice a slight variation amongst ingredient listings on differing sites. Limonene, for example is a compound found in Grapefruit Oil, and the UK requests it to be listed out separately. Then I Met You can assure you that all products boast the same formulation, with the same sorbet soft texture that everyone loves!

Then I Met You - Living Cleansing Balm

Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm Reviews

    Just Okay
I was very excited to get my hands on this since I'm a big fan of cleansing balms. Sadly, the texture makes it a bit hard to pick up, the smell I find slightly medicinal (or simply not my cup of tea), it does have good cleansing power when removed with a warm damp flannel, however, it's bright orange colour stains all my flannels.
    Not for me..
Bought this on the back of Caroline Hirons recommendation. It does not work for me. My skin and pores were awful after I changed from using Emma Hardy to this. I rarely get spots or blackheads. The product looks and smells nice, my face feels clean after using but the end result seems to be bad skin, so gutted.
    Heavenly
I was so excited when this finally launched in the UK as I had wanted to try both cleansers for ages. The price was off-putting though! It's not necessary to spend this much on a cleanser but when they came up in the 20% sale I purchased them. I honestly love them and if you like to relax at the end of the day with an indulgent cleanse then I recommend you try them. The balm is absolutely beautiful. It's rich and nourishing (smells really good) and rinses off with the lightest residue. As my skin is combo, I follow up with a second cleanse using the gel cleanser which works well for me. Will DEFINITELY repurchase.
    Lovely but pricey
It’s a lovely cleansing balm. Nice texture, no clumps, great at removing makeup and has a fresh subtle smell. I just think there are other balms out there that will do the same thing, for a much lower price. I use it as a treat every other night for more of a ”luxury sensorial experience”.
    Was super hyped but disappointed
I truly was super excited to try this cleansing balm. It’s easy to use and dissolves the makeup very quickly. It has a fruity smell which I don’t really enjoy and wish it was less strong. When it came down to taking off my eye makeup my eyes started to burn and turned red eventually. I know it’s not supposed to go in your eyes but there are some balms out there that can clean the eyes properly without any stinging or burning. This is not one of them unfortunately
    Wow
This balm is amazing and smells amazing too. I love the texture and leaves my skin glowing and fresh. Will definitely be buying more!
    Gorgeous product
Lovely buttery cleansing balm - emulsifies beautifully and leaves the skin soft and clean
    Love this cleanser
Originally brought this because Caroline Hirons raved about it, and she was not wrong! It smells amazing and it's so nice to use. Gets the majority of my waterproof mascara off in the first cleanse. If you love a Balm Cleanser you will love this one.
    Meh
Was on the waiting list following a recommendation by Caroline Hirons and I couldn’t wait to try. But I must say I’m rather underwhelmed and I’ll not repurchase. While the product is pleasant enough, I enjoyed the bright yellow colour and it leaves a softness to the skin, that’s about it really. Have used balms that are just as good and cheaper - Beauty Pie - for example. Estée Lauder cleansing balm is much better and Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm is beyond comparison to this... I mean, it transforms your skin with one use! Do not believe the hype with this one, try one of the others. So disappointing, as it’s literally the first product that I’ve disagreed with Caroline Hirons on.
    Pure LUXURY
I’ve been a huge fan of this cleansing balm since it launched so it makes me so happy to finally see it available on Cult Beauty. With notes of Perssimon and mint this cleansing balm smells truly beautiful and transports me to that place of relaxation. It melts effortlessly and leaves my skin feeling baby soft. I just can’t get enough of it.
    Lovely gentle cleanser!
This is my first time purchasing this cleansing balm and definitely won't be the last time! It is so gentle and cleanses thoroughly - even removing SPF creams, mascara etc and doesn't sting the eyes. The smell is 'clean', slightly citrus and not overpowering and it leaves my skin feeling so clean and moisturised - love it!
    BEST CLEANSING BALM EVER!
I prefer this to every cleansing balm I've ever used, even the Emma Hardie Moringa Balm, if you get a little in the eyes there is no sting and this doesn't feel as heavily fragranced as the permission fruit gives a beautiful fragrance naturally, the texture is the softest ever too like butter! Beaks down everything and washes off really easy, easier than the glow recipe papaya! and really helps with pigmentation. seriously can't fault this balm
    One of the best
This is a really good balm - as good as Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm which for me is the gold standard. I will probably go back to the Moringa Cleansing Balm in the end, primarily because it comes in a bigger jar and with a face cloth, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a great product.
    Gorgeous Cleansing Balm
I absolutely lovee this cleansing balm!
    Its ok
It does what it’s supposed to: didn’t hate it. The problem with hype is clearly expectations are high.
    Clearly overhyped
It smells citrusy, quite common. Nothing special. You can find other options way more affordable - the Heimish one for example.
    Love this product
It lived up to the hype for me. Took every scrap of makeup off and left me with baby soft skin. Would definitely rebuy it!
    It's nice but
It's a lovely cleanser, does the job, but I think it's not worth the hype. I feel like for that money and after all the reviews I was expecting something magical and after receiving it I was a bit disappointed. I Will not be repurchasing as my body shop camomile cleanser is just as lovely and half the price.
    A dream to use
Everything about this cleansing balm is divine. The smell is incredible, the texture is buttery and melts into the most gorgeous oil. The packaging is adorable and the founder is also a genuinely delightful human. I’ve found this brilliant for removing makeup and SPF. A gorgeous first cleanse - cheers me up at the end of the day. Will definitely repurchase (if it doesn’t keep selling out!).
    Buttery smooth balm cleanser
Love this product! I saw Caroline Hirons mention this and as soon it was available on Cult I purchased it. It is worth the hype. The product just melts as soon as you apply it on to your skin. My skin feels softer and smoother. I will be repurchasing again and again.
Worth the wait.. lives up to the hype
This product is unbelievable. If you are an Emma Hardie moringa cleansing balm fan, well meet your new best friend. It feels like butter gliding on your skin and is super hydrating. It’s so hydrating that for the first time in 5 years I forgot to moisturise after cleansing because my skin felt so soft and hydrated. If you are contemplating buying this…. well don’t, just buy it.
    Amazing Product
I've been waiting to try this for so long and it did not disappoint! I have very sensitive skin and had no issues. Smells and feels amazing, and my skin is actually feeling so much softer now. Will be buying this again and trying the other products!
    Love it
I bought this initially with the Soothing Tea Gel. It is the perfect double cleanse duo. I use it usually after work to remove my makeup effectively. Leaves my skin soft and not dried out. I have acne prone skin (oily skin).
    It’s good
I bought it from their site directly, but I’m glad it’s on cult beauty now, much easier to order from here for me personally. It has a kind of medicinal scent but it’s really good at removing makeup and feels nice. And the packaging is really pretty.
    Just wow
Genuinely the best skincare product I have ever used. The smell, the feel, the results. If you aren't sure - give it a go! You won't regret it
    Worth the hype
What more can I add? There are already so many rave reviews for this product and I do understand why. I love a cleansing balm and I have never used one quite as smooth and buttery as this. It feels amazing to use and of course, smells delicious!
    In love
So glad I purchased this off a whim. It emulsifies perfectly and leaves skin feeling super clean and very soft. Will definitely be repurchasing.
    Love this product
I am a huge fan of this cleansing balm. Because of the amazing reviews, I thought I would try this instead of my normal balm. I won’t be going back to my previous cleanser! This melts away eye make up off and leaves my skin so smooth. I love it. It is definitely worth a try.
    A cleansing dream
This was recommended by Caroline Hirons and when it kept getting sold out, I decided to see what the fuss was about. I have tried numerous cleansing balms from high-end to more affordable, and nothing compares to this. For context, I have oily/combination skin, wear makeup and SPF daily, and wear contact lenses. This emulsifies beautifully, smells fresh, and doesn’t make my contacts blurry. I knew I loved it when it started to finish, and I started to panic! It makes cleansing an enjoyable, sensory experience — looking forward to trying more from the brand.
    Perfect cleanser….
It really is! Caroline Hirons was right- of course. The cleansing balm is a lovely texture which emulsifies nicely with water and with a flannel removes every scrap of makeup. Smells wonderful, feels delightful and doesn’t leave my skin sore or sensitised or tight, just comfortable and clean. Will certainly repurchase.
    It's good!
This cleansing balm is very nice. It is pleasantly scented with a citrus/herbal fragrance, it has a thick consistency but spreads easily on the skin, it dissolves makeup, including waterproof mascara well. I don't feel the need to rave about it though like some reviewers as there are some downsides to it. Firstly, the colour stains fabrics and leaves an unsightly stain around the sink. Secondly, it is only suitable as a first cleanse and it requires a second cleanse with a face-wash to remove any residue from the skin. I made the mistake of using it as a second cleanse and the orange residue stained my pillow!
    Love this cleanser
I have dry/sensitive skin and I love this cleanser! Thanks to Caroline Hirons for the recommendation I ordered two :)
    Worth the wait!
Been waiting on this product but it kept selling out so fast! Finally got my hands on it and I won’t be looking back! Absolutely excellent as the first cleanse followed by the gel cleanser! Excellent products and smell amazing!!
    Amazing!!!
Best cleanser I’ve used. Goes on skin like soft butter. Really gets rid of make up even the toughest waterproof mascara and eye liner. Great product. Absolutely amazing!!
Good, but not worth the price
The product in itself is nice. There's nothing wrong with it, sometimes leaves a bit of a waxy feel on the skin after rinsing off and doesn't get waterproof mascara off easily. I don't get the hype. For the price, it surely disappoints. Again, it's nice but not 37 pounds nice. The packaging is very cute, and it certainly does look nice in my bathroom.
    Treat yourself
I’m such a nervous, melancholic, up and down person. One thing I promised myself to do is to daily give myself a nice treatment before bedtime. This balm is so soothing and beautiful, I love it. Yes, it’s overpriced, but well okay, treat yourself.
    Absolutely love it!
I've been using this balm for the past couple of weeks and I can honestly say that it's one of the best cleansers I've used (it rates as high as the Elemis balm to me). I have very sensitive cystic acne-prone skin, so I usually have to be really careful with what products I use. But this is gentle, it's great at removing make-up, and it leaves my skin feeling so smooth after use. My skin loves it (it hasn't made me break out once), and it smells amazing too. Definitely, an instant repurchase for me when I finally use up the pot I'm currently using, which will be a while as a little bit definitely goes a long way.
    Does it all!
I buy a lot of cleansing balms and use them at night to clean away the SPF50 sunscreen I wear, I don’t wear makeup so can not say what it is like at getting makeup off. I have been using this balm every night for a couple of weeks and I can say that it does a good job of cleansing my face it has a lovely texture and smells nice too. It rinses away nicely without leaving a residue. I am not a person who repeatedly buys any cleanser simply because there are so many other nice ones out there to buy and try. This does the job it’s made for.
    HG
I’ve been waiting for this to come back in stock for so long and finally managed to get my hands on it and I’m absolutely in love with it! Beautiful packaging (recyclable too!), lovey silky texture and smells very fresh. It leaves my skin super smooth without stripping moisture but also it’s strong enough to remove makeup. It’s the perfect product for the first cleanse. Price-wise it’s a little expensive but totally worth it as a little bit goes a long way!
    All time fave cleansing balm!
This cleansing balm is insane! The hype is most certainly real here, this balm smells delicious - think fruity cocktail by the beach, it gets rid of everything on your face with zero irritation - a long time eyeliner fan like me needs a gentle balm, and it leaves the skin super soft. Honestly such a dream to use! Would definitely recommend!
    Fab Product
There are many similar cleansing balms available so it’s not unique. I tried it after having tried 3 other similar top brands. Loved the smell and feel. Does the job. Pricey though.
    Wonderful
Love this cleanser, very soft and smooth, melts your make up off, smells great. I also bought this on the recommendation of Caroline Hirons and I’m glad I did. She always gives good advice! I use this every night, leaves my skin very soft.
    SUPERB cleanser
Oh my word. Where do I start? I bloody love this cleanser. I wasn't looking for a new cleanser as I'm very loyal to my Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel but somehow got sucked into the hype when Caroline Hirons started raving about this one. The scent is spa-like, the texture is dreamy and it just gets the job done in the best possible way. One thing that surprised me as no one really mentioned it in their reviews: it's also refreshening! Which is definitely a bonus during the hotter months of the year. If you love Clinique Take The Day Off Balm you will be blown away by Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm. For me this is going to be a staple in my skincare stash.
    The best cleanser ever
Truly divine and a joy to use, it just melts into the skin. All praise to Charlotte Cho for this amazing cleanser. This is in my top 5 of all-time skin favorites.
    Love it
I was really keen to try this after Caroline Hirons recommended it and I luckily got it when it was available. It’s already sold out so it must be popular. I’m a big Emma Hardie Moringa cleansing balm fan and this is just as nice. I wouldn’t say it leaves my face as hydrated as the Emma Hardie one but it’s so fun to use - fun packaging and the little scooper is really cool to scoop out the gorgeous scented butter. I will be repurchasing.
    Fantastic
A bit of a sensory overload when I first put it on due to strong scent and he orange/yellow colour but that actually helped me to see if I emulsified all of it off my face while cleansing. Some solid balm cleansers leave me feeling like i've still got a film over my skin but this felt like it cleansed and left my skin as it should. Cheaper ones out there but using this one feels like a treat as well as doing its job.
    Worth the hype and wait…
Having eagerly awaiting this to go live on Cult Beauty I can confirm it was worth the wait and most definitely not disappointing. There have been such high expectations for this product and it’s lived up to the hype. A perfect first cleanse, the smooth balm melts beautifully into the skin. I then added warm water and continued to rub into the skin emulsifying the product, all traces of SPF and daily grime are gone. The smell, feel of my skin after just amazing. Thanks Cult Beauty for bringing this brand to the UK. Will certainly be buying the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel for a 2nd cleanse now.
    Worth the wait and hype!.
I’ve wanted to try this ever since skin queen Caroline Hirons raved about it as her product of 2020 and I’m so glad I snapped one up before they sold out like Adele tickets. It’s such a beautiful cleanser and it isn’t a lumpy balm you have to squash down like lumps of butter it just melts immediately on application. It is such a pleasure to use and it definitely gets off every scrap of SPF and debris of the day. My face felt super soft after and I can’t wait to use it again. It’s made me want to try more of the range. Thank you Cult for bringing this brand to the UK!
    Best cleanser EVER!!
Periwinkle blue is such a cool colour, it's so retro it's modern schweetie! Anyway, enough about the outside, let's talk about slip baby. This balm melts into a smooth oily massage-bed of fabulousness, lifting all makeup or SPF or dirt from your skin in such a sensuous, delightful way. It either washes off with warm water or, my preference a hot cloth to leave a happy, boosted surface in its wake. This is K-beauty 2.0!
