If youre living in London, chances are that youve passed the Earl of East stores and done a double take: picture a haven of plants, plush pillows and their all-famous home fragrances. Formed around four pillars Create, Curate, Collaborate and Community the lifestyle store-cum-studio is beloved for its in-store candle-pouring and workshops. What started in Hackney as a succinct edit of candles has since evolved into a line of home fragrance favourites that spans across bath salts, incense and aromatic mists.
With candles at the core of the brand since their beginnings as a weekly pop-up stall at Netil Market, it's safe to say that Earl of East's Japanese Bathing Ritual Soy Wax Candle is the ultimate introduction to the range (and a delight for anyone with a bougie obsession).
Beyond their effortlessly chic vessels and refined typography, the candles are made from an eco-soy blend of high-quality, raw materials from ethical suppliers; co-founder Niko Dafkos assures that their work does not contribute to deforestation and respects the rights of workers and indigenous people. Available in two heavenly scents, the only hard part is picking your favourite; taking its name from the Japanese word for hot spring, the Onsen scent profile has an uplifting medley of peppermint, eucalyptus and neroli that emulates the very same sense of serenity that makes the onsen a cultural tradition. The Shinrin Yoku literally forest bath in Japanese scent is an ode to the practice of disconnecting from our fast-paced world, being in nature and absorbing the peaceful atmosphere of the woods. It has an earthy profile of cedarwood, black pepper and oakmoss that conjures the image of a forest floor after the early morning rain abates.
Place in the central part of the room for optimum fragrance distribution.
These candles are made out of 100% eco-soy [non-GMO] wax & essential oils. All materials used are vegan, non-GMO, paraben-free, phthalate free & cruelty free. Glue used is solvent free & vegan.

loved the Onsen scent
loved the Onsen scent and smell lingers and diffuses nicely , worth spreading word about this product.

I bought this because of reviews and always being out of stock, so guessing this would be a great candle. But unfortunately not. I can’t smell ANYTHING at all. I won’t buy again but would probably try Onsen next time and hope for the best.

The scent is quite beautiful with hints of mint, neroli and eucalyptus, it fills the room immediately. Ideal for lighting in the evenings when unwinding. A true pleasure to use.
Report this reviewGood quality candle but subtle and not my taste scent
I like the quality and the fair price of this candle. I was expecting a more rich and invigorating scent that wasn't the case with this candle. It's tricky buying candles online because you cannot be sure about the scent, even when you read the keynotes.

I previously bought the Onsen essential oil and wanted to try the candle. Of course, the scent isn’t identical but it’s very pleasant and the candle burns evenly. The fragrance fills a room perfectly.
Report this reviewThe perfect relaxing candle
I have always loved Onsen scent profiles in products, it's such a relaxing and refreshing scent that is perfect for unwinding after a long week. I love lighting this when I have a bath, as it really feels like part of a ritual and makes me relax. The scent throw on the Earl of East candles is incredible, I can smell this all the way downstairs when it's burning! I also purchased Shinrin Yoku and this is the ideal winter candle, it is reminiscent of burning log fires and smells so warm and inviting. I know this kind of scent isn't for everyone, but if you like a heavier scent that's still comforting, you will love this too!
Report this reviewThe best bathroom relaxing scent
The medley of cedarwood and peppermint evoke a herbaceous evening warmth. Ideal for those late afternoon lightings when the weather turns dreary and cold and wet and the days feel extra long. Encased in a beautiful small orange jar that amplifies the warmth of the candle burn and fills our bathroom with cozy light perfect for lights out showers and baths to calm and instil serenity, I mean its a joy, just wish it was bigger
