    • Why it's Cult

Everybody in the Cult’s getting tipsy! Serious skin, hair and body care heroes that don’t take themselves super seriously, Drunk Elephant’s rise to the top of the industry pops has been (rightfully!) meteoric. Founded by Tiffany Masterson who wanted to formulate products without any ‘fillers’, this all-star collection is powered by biocompatible actives – a mix of synthetic and plant-derived extracts – that skin recognises and knows what to do with. And, because of their ingredient-elimination philosophy, you won’t find any of the following ‘Suspicious 6’ – drying alcohols, silicones, SLS, chemical screens, essential oils or fragrances/dyes – so you can ‘reset’ your complexion and help both your skin and your tresses to flourish like never before.

Drunk Elephant - Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defence SPF 30

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defence SPF 30 Reviews

    Not worth the price
This product is not at all worth the price Also, this causes breakouts and is extremely oily on the skin Though I’m a fan of drunk elephant products this sunscreen is totally not worth the buy
Like it, but I get why other don't
I really enjoy this sunscreen, but I also get why other don't like it. It's very glowy, which I like because I have very dry skin. However, if you're oily then you may find it too greasy. My skin is quite pale, so I am not sure this would work for me all year round, but it's great for summer. The sheer coverage evens my skin out a bit, and sits well under the makeup I use. The tube is nice and large, so I feel like it will last a long time.
    Best tinted ever!!
This is my first ever review of a product. And I had to write one as I have seen a few negative ones, and I am worried that they might discontinue the product, as for me this truly is the best product I have ever tried!!! It gives me the most natural, dewy sun-kissed look and at the same time, it has 30 SPF. I have a combination type skin and I have always struggled to find a product that looks as good as this one. All the other ones I’ve tried make my skin look very oily and patchy and don’t last throughout the day. So please please please never change the formula and never discontinue this amazing product!!!
    Umbra Tinte Daily Defence
    Excellent product
Love this sunscreen, I'm Indian NC42 with olive and yellow undertone, and this sunscreen blends in so well with my skin tone. If your skin is extremely dry this may peal, if your skin is too oily this may make you look even oilier, if you have combination skin you're on to a winner. If your pale then the tint will not look right, however medium to dark tones this does blend in, nicely. I will keep buying this and my Umbra Sheer Original. Quick delivery too
    Weird texture and odd smell...
It was a kind of oily/grainy texture that really put me off. Normally love DE products but this one was so not worth the money. Also it had a really weird biscuity smell, my boyfriend hated it every time he went to kiss me! Straight in the bin.
Nice glow but not for under make up
This SPF gives a nice bronze glow on my pale complexion but I found it to pill under make up. I now just use this is on no make up days.
I never normally leave reviews but for anyone considering purchasing this... STEER CLEAR! Wish I read the reviews before purchase. The pilling is insane, at first I thought maybe the moisturizer I wore underneath was the issue after illimanating it for a few days it was obvious that the sunscreen was the problem. It barely stays on for 1 minute before pilling and horrible under makeup. Seriously suggest DE reformulate this or take it out of production.
I really wanted to like this product, but it's awful, and I can't even force myself to use it. It has an unpleasant smell and terrible texture. Shaking the bottle didn't help. It comes out of the tube separated and with a pilling texture. It left my skin feeling oily and looking shiny (not in a glowing way). I wish I had read more reviews on other sites before splurging on this.
    A clear no
I've tried. I really did try to love this product as it's absolutely everything I was looking for. But it just does not work: it's too shiny, it moves around, and worst part, it PEELS like crazy, and nothing can layer on top of it, not even my dear and trusted CT airbrush powder. So disappointed...
New staple in my make up/skin care routine.
Loved this product during lockdown when I still want to feel good about myself without lots of makeup. Absolutely love this product. I have oily skin type by top up with a small bit of powder and it’s perfect.
    Fabulous product
I love this product ..it goes on smoothly & gives a nice light tint ( I have fair skin) and good coverage from the sun. Will def buy again
    Nice colour bit shiny
This tinted moisturiser is a good colour for me (fair skin with yellow undertones) but leaves my face shiny as I’ve just put on sunscreen. I ended up having to powder my t-zone to get rid of the oily look. As other reviewers have mentioned it also peels off in little bits. I’ll use it up (it’s not terrible) but wouldn't buy it again.
    Nice but a bad smell...
I like the product; it does what it says it will and I like the glow it gives. I do not, however, like the smell at all! It smells vinegary and once you notice it, it puts you off using it every day a little bit. The coverage is quite light and sometimes in hot weather it feels as though it's melting off my face so overall, I probably wouldn't buy this again.
    Foul Smelling
I heard some great things about the Drunk Elephant brand so I was keen to try their SPF. As I wanted a slight coverage, I purchased the tinted version. Unfortunately, I have been so disappointed with this product because, quite frankly, it stinks. There's an overpowering plastic smell to the SPF which appears to resemble the smell that you find in very cheap nasty foundations. It lingers for about an hour after application. It is quite ironic that the product smells so unnatural when the brand is so proud of their decision to not use chemicals. I contacted Cult Beauty and Drunk Elephant as I was worried. I was advised by both companies that the lack of scent in their products means that they cannot mask the natural odour so it was so supposed to smell that way. I was also advised that the non-tinted version smells the same. I wouldn't recommend this product as there are much nicer SPF products on the market without the terrible odour.
I love the golden glow, forever a fave <3
    Not for me
I had high expectations for this product because I love their moisturizers, but this was not satisfying on the skin. It creases, coverage is not smooth and at the same time it gives you "oily" skin look instead of the promised glow. Also for fair to medium light skin tones it's too dark & orangy. I will use it only by the pool during summer, because of SPF30 protection.
I got dry skin and I'm a MAC nc15. I LOVED this sunscreen, it's exactly what I was looking for, I wanted a tinted sunscreen to replace my foundation in the early mornings so I could walk out without feeling embarrassed about the redness in my skin. It really did serve this purpose as it does indeed even out the skin tone and add some extra glow! I'd describe the texture as similar to the clinique mineral sunscreen but a little more hydrating. LOVE IT!
It hurts my soul to write this but spend your money on something else. It’s really bad. It’s runny and spills; orange if you’re a light skin tone; everything you put on top of it just peels off; it’s shiny like no other sunscreen leaving you looking sweaty and you can see every single streak of movement. I’m sorry, DE.
    YES to this
I absolutely love this product. It gives me the perfect glow, it doesn't peel (I use Antipodes oil and Skinfood creme underneath). You don't have to use it a lot, just a few drops. And it lasts for a long time. Will repurchase it for sure!
    So bad
I really don't like posting bad reviews, because I understand that a product that doesn't work for me might work well for others. However, this was so bad for me, I had to share. It doesn't absorb well, it peels, the tint is strange, the dewy look is way excessive and it irritates my sensitive neck skin. For me this is the worst skincare buy ever.
    Works great for me
I really like this product, I get away with using it instead of foundation at the moment :) I love the smell and it absorbs quickly and does not feel sticky - I have combination skin.
    Peels off
The colour of the product is really good as it gives the skin slide of a tan. However, it does not sink into the skin, but sits on top and it peels off if you try to apply other products on top of it. Drunk Elephant really should change the formula.
    Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte
Great product! Works perfectly for me. I have combination skin, rather fair. It does not peel of, it layers overs nicely, it is not too dark (that I was afraid of before trying it on). I didn't notice any particular smell. So, in a nutshell, I am very pleased with the product.
    Peeling nightmare
I love DE products which is why I'm so disappointed in this. It's impossible to wear - it starts peeling off and balling up immediately no matter the type of products I wear underneath (I've tried it all). Also the colour is extremely orange which might be fine if it stayed uniform but combined with the peeling, it looks like a bad self tanning job. Do not buy, it's wasted money!
    The smell...
I really liked the product but I can't stand the smell!! Can't use it, even though I liked the way it looked. I've tried a lot of DE products and they all smell fine, but this one... It's a no from me.
    Very sheer tint
I tried this product to replace the CC cream I had previously been using. However, I found it too sheer a tint to cover my uneven skin. It also made my eyes water after the initial application. This product would be good for someone who is looking for minimal coverage and doesn't have sensitive skin.
    Perfect for me!
I love the colour and the feel. It is certainly not too dark or too orange on me and I’m certainly not dark skinned. I don’t need makeup in the summer with this product (it gives a nice glow) and it protects my skin against the sun: who could ask for more?
    Love it!
This is a great product. I use it every day after my moisturiser and it melts into the skin and leaves a beautiful tint. LOVE!
    Too dark
I like the ingredients in this product and the brand in general, but this sunscreen does not work for me... First of all, it is pretty dark on me (and I’m not very fair, more light to medium) and it turns a bit orange after a few hours. Also, it pills even when I only use DE serums. It sadly just didn’t work for me :’(
    Nope...but the tint is nice
So, this is my 4th Drunk Elephant product (B-Hydra Serum, Marula Oil and C Vitamin Tango are the other 3) and I had high expectations. My skin is dry/sensitive with some redness, so i thought that must be a killer product for me. it provides sun protection, some light tint, awesome combo. Yet however i tried it, with moisturizer, without moisturizer, with moisturizer and hydration serum underneath, it was pealing of. especially if i combined it with concealer. It does not sink into the skin, but rather remains on the surface leaving the skin tacky. The color comes of to quite easily, so I had to always be super careful. I wanted to love it but it just didn't do it for me.
    Absolutely love it
I know that there are very mixed reviews on here and at first I was so reluctant to buy it but so glad that I did. Absolutely love it. I’m fairly pale-skinned being Irish but it blended in so well. I was using the Vichy tinted BB50 before this which I found difficult to blend and sat on the skin. I’m definitely converted to Drunk Elephant and will be buying again.
    Most amazing products
I have a combination skin, and this is by FAR the most amazing product I have ever used on my face, and I have tried pretty much most of the high rated brands that are out there. It makes my skin look have that natural sun kissed, no make up look. I am totally obsessed with it!! If I could I would give 10 star review
    Good alternative to la roche-posay
Usually, use la Roche-Posay tinted but thought I'd give this a go. Consistency is a bit thicker and almost seems like it's curdled slightly, but it goes on smoothly and blends nicely. Good sun protection, and great value for money for the size bottle you get. I got the untinted one for my kids (10 & 7) and they like this brand too.
    Don't bother
Not only does it pill like crazy, and look like you have straight-up oil on your face but if you're pale it will make you completely orange if you use enough to have any actual sun protection.
I wanted to try Drunk Elephant product.. and bought this SPF. it is sooo oily ( i have combination) and the texture is really bad. i mix it with moisturizer and then it is a bit better.. but DO NOT buy it.
This product is awful! I wish I read the reviews before purchasing. The texture is so oily and bitty. It made my skin look really greasy and it pilled so badly that people were always pointing out there was stuff on my face and in my hairline. Steer clear!
No good if you plan on wearing make up...
I think this product is great if you have naturally even skin that does not require make up however for us who don't then this isn't it!The texture is watery/oily? I can't describe it but it doesn't work under make up and peels. I ended up throwing it out sadly.
I really cannot believe that this is a product that actually exists.I would expect this kind of product to come into production in a futuristic world, where your most insane beauty product wishes do come true. And yet, this magical hi-tech product is mine to use every single day.I really cannot understand how come those negative reviews. I guess people use this the wrong way, have some kind of weird expectations or forget that this product is actually a sunscreen.A fabulous one that I would even buy as foundation, I even use this at night time for my makeup. It gives that HEALTHY glow and coverage. It does pill a little if you layer or if you put too little amount or rub the wrong way.Find the correct way to use it and you will have 'my skin but better' only with an amazing 20% zinc oxide inside to terminate that sun damage. It does protect either in the urban jungle or that tropical island.
    Love it
I was looking for a new tinted sunscreen as I prefer just to use this than a separate sunscreen and tint/foundation. I was skeptical, but I'm really impressed with the coverage and that it doesn't irritate or clog as my skin is super acne prone. I have some acne scarring, but just using this and a bit of concealer gives me enough coverage. I do tend to be oily, but this imparts a nice glow without turning me into an oil slick. I like the smell, it's not overpowering, and I'd rather have the natural sunscreen smell than a perfumed product. I tend to have a bit of rosacea on my cheeks, but switching to this physical sunscreen has really helped keep my skin less red. Finally, the tint might be a bit too dark for my fair to light skin in the middle of winter, but it's given me a lovely glow this summer!
    Lovely coverage
I love this. Can feel a bit grainy out of the tube, but once it goes on the coverage is beautiful and it lasts all day. It is really noticeable when I’m wearing it and people comment on how nice my skin looks. Pricey but worth it.
    Pleased with product
I am somewhat bemused by some of the negative reviews. I don’t detect any smell and nor have I had any peeling, whether using with or without primer, with sun cream or regular moisturiser. It goes on smoothly. I agree that the tint might be too dark for very fair skins but I find it ok - especially in current heat wave! The ‘how to use’ section does advise using non tinted version for fair skin. I think it’s maybe a bit pricey but am happy with it so far for days when I don’t want to wear foundation.
    Skin stinger
The colour is beautiful, and makes the skin look flawless once it's applied however it does (like all other mineral sunscreens I must add!) sting a lot when it's put on the skin, but the stinging doesn't stop there for me. Anytime I sweat it starts stinging again. My skin feels very, very dry once it's been put on too. Other products just don't do that to me, this is the first time I have experienced it. I've also noticed that I sweat ALOT more with it on, and it's not even that thick so this has left me kind of baffled. I wouldn't buy it again, but I'm really glad that I have tried it as it's sure to go well for some people and I still really want to try all the other products in the Drunk Elephant's range.
So, so disappointing, had high expectations from the brand
I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews. I figured since it was Drunk Elephant it would be a good quality product and wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. But oh boy was I wrong :( Had the same negative experience as many others: - tint is too dark and very orange, you end up looking like Trump - consistency is oddly grainy - when you spread it on your face is peels up and rolls into little bits (even though this is the last layer I put on my face, no makeup on top of it) The only usable application I've found for it, to save it from going straight in the trash, was mixing it with a normal white mineral SPF to fix the horrible tint issue and decrease the pilling a bit. Would not buy again!!! Paula's Choice tinted sunscreens are still my top choice.
    Pretty decent
This is a good quality product that offers good protection and I like that it is 50ml. It is perfect as adding a slight tint to conceal redness whilst still looking natural. Only downside is I still think £30 is quite an investment in a product. And also the tint is very thin And doesn’t blend perfectly. and for someone who suffers from redness I still need A touch of Concealer. Obviously this isn’t going to be an issue for everyone though. I would probably re-buy if I couldn’t find a better option but I would try and find cheaper first.
Looks super greasy, appears orange on fair skin and streaks if you sweat at all. It also has a really weird, overpowering scent.
    Love Love Love
I have been hunting for a clean tinted facial sunscreen for everyday use for years! I used to use Nars tinted moisturizer but since I’ve wanted to eliminate certain chemicals I’ve really struggled to find a good replacement. This is excellent! It feel hydrating on the skin and leaves a nice glowy finish with just enough coverage. Will be a regular in my makeup bag from now on.
    Very good
Very nice smell, very nice tint, very hydrating, looks amazing on my skin.
    I think I got a bad batch
When I open the tube the product is so 'liquidy' and it falls right out of the tube. It looks separated. Feels so greasy on my face.
    So dissapointed
I have bought 2 of them - one for me and one for my sister and we are both so, so, so disappointed. This stuff has the most unpleasant smell, it peels off with every product you put underneath or above and on top of this, all the packaging is weird. It's not exactly a squeezing tube, as the product just spills out. There are other face SPFs that are much better - skip this one.
    Excellent all-mineral moisturising sunscreen
Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defence SPF 30 Due to skin sensitivities, it's crucial my skin care routine includes an all-mineral moisturiser in the morning, regardless of time of year or outdoor exposure. I'm fair-skinned and found the tinted Drunk Elephant formulation worked well. It's without a doubt darker than other tinted all-mineral sunscreen moisturisers I've used. It takes a little longer applying this to my satisfaction in the morning but I don't use often use foundation in addition to this cream. It usually looks better an hour or so after applying it. It wears well throughout the day. It deserves my highest rating because of the exceptionally good ingredients, lack of fragrance and gentle, effective sun protection. The tube I received isn't a foil-style squeeze container but a thick plastic container best shaken prior each use. Have a care when opening it; too much can spill out. The packaging protects the light- and air-sensitive ingredients in the product if the cap is carefully replaced after each use.
    Very unfair reviews
I cannot understand the bad reviews. This is a premium product. It is very difficult to find physical protection AND offer a cosmetically pleasing product. And DE offers a high quality product that works like a dream, feels like nothing on your face even if you apply lots of it and after 10 minutes it absorbs and leaves with a beautiful finish with ZERO oil. It literally feels like nothing on your face. I am very hard to please and hands down, this sunscreen is out of this world. Of course, if you wear a ton of silicon serums and primers beneath, it will inevitable pill and any other product would. It is a pity some really bad products have 5 star rave reviews and this little gem has 3.
    Peeling disaster
Unfortunately, the product sits on top of your face and peels and rolls like crazy, even on its own (I rarely wear make-up). I find it impossible to wear ;-( Love the packaging and the idea though! DE please work on this formula.
    Not wearable
I found this SPF so hard to wear. It doesn’t really dry out so the face feels wet, sticky and extremely shiny for a long time. Also hard to apply makeup on top because the SPF peels strangely. It has a very strong smell which reminds me of lemon cake, which I actually quite liked!
    Lovely discovery
First of all, I want to praise the customer service of Cult Beauty! I initially had a problem with my tinted SPF and they were so quick to fix the problem. That being said, I love this product. Aside from the traditional SPF smell (not that strong) that does not linger, I love this! Since it's extremely hot and humid here in Valencia, this is my go-to for everyday base now. I put a little bit of the La Mer skin tint and that's it. My face looks flawless the whole day despite the weather here!
    Me like it:)
    Extremely hydrating!
    Love it.
***Gives the skin a beautiful glow, mixes well with other DE products. The colour is too pink and too dark for me but I add two drops of Cover FX Custom Cover Drops and I fix it with mineral powder and I do not need anything more.
I love it. It feels good on my skin and the shade is not too dark. Will def repurchase!
    Just perfect
Since I bought this I haven’t had to wear foundation, I get malasma so re application is essential it doesn’t pill after even 4 applications I’ve been to the beach and my malasma would always get worse on a beach day but you can hardly see it, I’m also very acne prone but not one spot.. I’ve tried every sun cream and this is my favourite so far, my skin tone is medium/tan and it’s perfect
    Not good at all
Normally I buy skin care products from Cult Beauty and have never been disappointed, but after using this product I’m so disappointed. This brand may be good for serums and other things, but not a fan of this particular product.
