The names are often interchangeable, although shower gels typically feel lighter while body washes can be creamier or oil-based. Let the formula, rather than the label, guide your choice.

Pour the recommended amount into warm running water and swirl to disperse. Step in carefully, as oil can make the bath surface slippery, and rinse the tub afterwards. 

Bath oil disperses through bath water, while you massage shower oil over wet skin and rinse it away. Only use one product for both if the directions say it's suitable.
