goop Scented Candle: Edition 02 - Shiso

Created in collaboration with star perfumer Douglas Little, goop’s fragrances are composed entirely of natural elements, harnessing the healing powers of plants, flowers and barks to create sophisticated, sexy and oh-so original scents. The fragrance that perfumes this candle is described as one of ‘cool air, pale sun and new life unfurling on the forest floor’. The central note of shiso leaf has a slightly spicy yet fresh fragrance that’s green, earth and delicate. Think: spicy greens, crushed stems, exotic woods and Japanese florals. Full of character, this makes a stylish signature scent for any home.

When goop, in collaboration with star perfumer Douglas Little, were dreaming up this Scented Candle: Edition 02 - Shiso, they were inspired by Ikebana, the art of Japanese floral composition, as well as thoughts of cool air, pale sun and sensual heat against cool, damp air. The star of the scent is shiso leaf (also known as perilla), which has a slightly spiced yet fresh characteristic, which is green, earthy and delicate all at once. The perfume begins with this, before opening out into spicy greens, crushed stems and ancient exotic woods, including oak moss, said to encourage creativity and palo santo, said to clear negative energy. This is mingled with extracts of lemon, lime, vetiver, cedar wood, cumin, clove and patchouli, for a beautifully balanced mix of the fresh and the spicy. Entirely non-toxic and crafted from soybean wax, this clean candle has a burn time of up to 65 hours.

Light the wick of the candle on a flat surface, away from anything flammable and relax

TOP TIP: The first time you light any candle make sure you allow it to burn uninterrupted for two hours, that way the candle will then burn evenly to the base rather than just a small dent through the middle of the wax. Trim the wick before subsequent uses to avoid smoke.
