Are you ready to take a more scientific approach to your skin care? Australian beauty brand Grown Alchemist has landed on our Cult Beauty shelves with its potent and powerful solutions... catering to every inch, from your head to your toes.

To celebrate the arrival, we sat down with Grown Alchemist CEO, Anna Teal, and Senior Product Manager, Liberty Angris, to talk about the brand’s inception, inspiration and what you can expect from this new-age Aussie powerhouse.

Lab coats, pens and baskets at the ready!

“Founded in Australia in 2008, Grown Alchemist was born from the belief that skin health and wellness is holistic and impacted by the world around us,” explains Anna. The beauty brand's line up is shaped with the help of skin scientists and nutritionists creating “high-performing products with clinically driven formulations and services that use plant and bio-tech ingredients.” With that in mind, the brand’s mantra is: “Health = Function = Beauty.”

As for the meaning behind the brand’s name? Anna explains it as “Grown = plant born, AL = for all and CHEMIST = formulations that work with your skin biology.” Makes sense!

“Our mission is to help minimise the impact of urban living on the skin, and we take inspiration from this to seek out the very best in new biotechnology alongside tried and tested ingredients for a holistic approach to formulation,” explains Liberty. “Ingredients must be proven scientifically to contribute to skin health, harnessing the best of what nature has to offer,” she adds. As such, the brand believes that its products are “better absorbed and better utilized delivering better skin care results.” How? “By helping to create optimum conditions for you and your skin to thrive.”

When looking to create new products, Liberty describes how the brand “starts by considering the wider context, i.e. depleted air quality in cities, an increase in environmental aggressors and stress. We also consider changes in market trends and consumer needs, such as an increased demand for skin barrier and microbiome boosting products. On top of that we build in research in dermatology, bio-tech ingredients and innovation within formulation textures and formats.” But what exactly is bio-technology? “Bio-compatible beauty means using ingredients that work best with your skin biology, so they are better utilized by your cells delivering better complexion results,” clarifies Liberty.

So, how should you incorporate Grown Alchemist into your routine? “We would argue that cleansing is the most important step to any skin care routine, but each step plays a role in improving and maintaining overall skin health,” says Liberty. “If you’re not sure where to start, we’d recommend using a cleanser, such as the Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser, that removes make up, SPF and daily grime. By cleansing your complexion, you help give access to your skin, allowing the rest of your routine to work better,” she adds

And what’s next for the brand? Anna tells us that there are “not one but TWO Cult Beauty exclusives and new category launches later this year. We also have some exciting brand partnerships lined up within the music and lifestyle spaces....” We can’t wait!

Now we have a deeper understanding of the brand, let’s get acquainted with some of its bestselling skin and body care essentials...

Formulated with cold-pressed rose petals, aloe vera and chamomile, Grown Alchemist’s Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser is a delicate, emollient formula that lifts impurities effortlessly from your complexion. Packed with polyphenols and polysaccharides, it helps to soothe and tone the skin for a visage that looks refreshed and refined, ready for the rest of your routine.

Created specifically to improve the appearance of oxidative and UV damage on the skin, Grown Alchemist’s Skin Renewal Day Cream is powered by a blend of niacinamide, glycerin, echinacea and green tea extracts. Full of nourishing phytosterols and triglycerides, this hydrating moisturiser balances the complexion so that skin feels soft, smooth and oh-so luminous.

Ideal for drier skin types, Grown Alchemist’s Instant Smoothing Serum is supercharged with an infusion of triple weight hyaluronic acid for an ultra-hydrating finish. Not only that but with the formula packed with aloe vera and glycerin, it soothes the skin while saturating the complexion with moisture-boosting properties. The result? A complexion that looks visibly radiant.

With a light-as-air formulation that effortlessly glides over skin, Grown Alchemist’s Skin Defense Primer is an ideal addition to smooth out the complexion and keep make up in place. Forming a veil over skin to shield it against pollution, dust and environmental aggressors, this skin saviour keeps your moisture barrier comfortable and nourished while simultaneously lessening the signs of fatigue and stress. And your make up? Locked in place all day long...

Calling on the calming benefits of barrier-protecting shea butter and fatty-acid rich jojoba seed oil, Grown Alchemist’s Restorative Body Cream is the perfect partner for your limb-loving routine. Fast absorbing and with a non-greasy texture, this body lotion quenches parched skin while simultaneously improving the appearance of elasticity and firmness. Plus, with a delicate aroma of soft citrus, it’s a scentsual pleasure to apply too.

And there you have it, a full rundown of everything you need to know about this new-age, bio-tech skin (and body) care brand. The time has come to level up your routine and work with your complexion chemistry...
