The wonder web we are weaving

I was just reading an article on a great website called InventorSpot.com about the future of Google search and how geographically localised the results are becoming.

2010 will see this taken to a whole new level as mobile phones start to become a viably fast way to surf. Google is focused on predictive technology that uses search history, geography and the first few letters you type to make the whole process flow intuitively.

Really helpful when you are in a rush, but there is a down side to this too. The randomness of olden day search results, while sometimes laborious, did unearth some brilliant surprises, rather like walking down the street in a foreign city. Do we all have to be boxed and homogenised into the behaviour patterns of the masses? What would be really cool is to be able to switch this functionality off at will…today I will be mostly choosing random. alexia inge
