Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eye Shadow Palette Reviews

    Great Palette
I've tried 3 shades so far and I am impressed. Pigmentation is amaaazing, and the shades blended like a dream. I've noticed the kickback, but honestly, it's only a bit more than what you get with Modern Renaissance. Be gentle with your brush and you will be fine. Can't wait to use it again.
    Emmm pass
Simply not worth it. Big disappointment from ABH. I bought this palette due to the colour selection, however, eye-shadows do not blend and tend to go darker, especially when combining with other colours (does not blend at all with other brand eyeshadows). Also, when applying to the lid, colour intensity dies.Too much fall-out, as well.
    Amazing pigment
This palette is amazing quality and the pigment of all of the shades but one is outstanding. I saw a lot of negativity surrounding this palette regarding fallout, which yes, there is fallout, and people struggled to make it work due to the colour selection, but I love the colours and I don't mind fallout on the pan. I love it! My only issue is with Cube, a white with a pink shimmer undertone, it doesn't pay off, but that's it.
    Fab but...
The palette is incredibly pigmented but is soft pressed into the pan. I see a lot of ‘influencers’ slating this palette and yes, if you swirl your brush around the pan a lot it will mean you hit pan quickly. Dawn is an especially loose packed shade and takes a lot of care. Colours will go muddy, however, this is because it is pretty much pure pigment rather than packed out with talc and you are most likely adding too much to your eye. Do I think this palette is suitable for somebody with little makeup experience? No. I think you have to have a certain level of skill to make this palette work - not just as somebody who applies makeup daily. If you are trained in makeup, if you have a lot of skill when it comes to makeup, if you are easily inspired when looking at a palette, this will be perfect.
    Absolutely fabulous
I received this palette for Christmas and I have fallen in love with it. I wouldn't say I'm amazing at makeup, however, I can create quick looks with this palette that continue to get compliments, and people are always surprised to learn that these are the shadows I used since most of the online reviews are pretty bad. when using the shadows I always use a light hand since it's so pigmented, and I really wouldn't be swirling my brush around in the pan like I've seen some influencers do- the formula is quite soft so if you do swirl a brush around for five minutes chances are you will hit pan pretty quick.
    Nice palette
The palette is extremely pigmented. It contains matte colors which are best used with a brush and shimmer colors which are best used with a finger. Just one tap on matte colors is enough for perfect application. Although I find this one of the best palettes I have used so far I think it has a bit of sandy texture and a lot of product goes to waste when touched a bit too rough with a makeup brush.
    Truly wonderful
I wasn't going to buy subculture because of the bad reviews, but I couldn't stop thinking about a few of the colours so I thought I'd give it a go, and honestly, I love it so much. The colours are very unique and so pigmented- granted, there is definitely kick back on the shadows, however, if you keep this in mind whilst using the palette it causes no issue; I'd say its definitely worth it for the available colours and the way they blend out! It took a little bit of time to get used to as it is so pigmented compared to other palettes, but I'm so glad that i bought it.
    Best
One of my favourite pallets and I have A LOT OF PALLETS LOL.
    Loved it
Despite all the reviews I bought it anyway an yea it does have a lot of fall out and have to be careful about dipping the brush in but the colour payoff is amazing it's so pigmented. Despite the fallout I have no problem with it.
    Love it! So unique
I really enjoy this palette. Granted it's a palette that takes a little more effort to maneuver because it's super pigmented and you only need a tap or two of the product to create a look but once you learn how to work with it the looks are very unique and really beautiful. I also find it easier to use if you don't try and use all the colors at once. I find that simplicity is key when using this palette.
    Had to find out myself
Crazy intense pigmentation, the shadows stay put all day with a good primer and amazing colours. (I’m done with warm neutral eyeshadows for the moment). If you tap off the excess there is no fallout. Touching a shadow gently with a brush is enough to load it with pigment. It will kick back powder but that powder can be used for your other eye. Swirling a brush in one of these pans is murder for this palette! I can't believe youtubers would even do that, they should be able to see how loosely the shadows are pressed! Zoeva brushes work great for this palette. The brush that came with the palette is scratchy but surprisingly not bad to apply eyeshadow with. Remember to apply powder after eyeshadow primer to make the blending smoother as these shadows like to cling on bare primer. However this can be a tricky formula. If you don’t wear eyeshadow every day and want something quick & easy this may not be the palette for you.
    Love it sooooooo much
I have many many many palettes but ever since I got this one as a bday present from my daughter. I just can't stop using it. Careful going in there with your brushes but I do that with every palette. It gives me an edgy look. The colours are gorgeous and quite unique. Even when I decide to use another palette. I still go over it with this one later on in the day. Like I said, I have been using this non stop.
    My Go To Pallete
I've seen a lot of negative reviews regarding this product and it's fallout but I think it all depends on how you use it. These colours are intense you don't need to rub your brush in to it a single tap on the pan gives you enough colour to work with and use the brush provided as it works best with the palette.
I don't understand the negative reviews
I absolutely love this palette. I really don't get the negative reviews. I have been able to blend the colours without any problems. The colours are soooooo pigmented! The only problem (which isn't a problem if you do eye make up first and foundation after) is the amount of fall out. Apart from that its BEAUT.
    Love it
I really don't get it why people talk so negative about it. I love the palette, the colours, everything its perfectly fine. the pigmentation its fabulous, my fav palette for sure.
    So happy.
These shades are to die for but seeing bad reviews really put me off. In the end I couldn't resist and I'm so glad I brought this. It does have fall out but use with a light hand and it's not so bad. Also fall out is shadow so I just pick up any on my brush and apply as I would loose pigment. It's lasted all day I used no primer and the colours r vibrant. I think it oxidises slightly but again I'm so happy I got this. Luv it.
    Amazing
Read poor reviews on this and was dubious about purchasing. However I am completely in love. It's such a nice range of colours and can accomplish so many different looks. I'm very into my eye make up and haven't has any problems blending the product. The very tiniest amount of product is needed so I feel it will last me forever. Probably not the best palette for beginners or people who aren't very experienced however I think it's great.
    Stunning
A light hand is definitely key to using this palette, tap the slightest amount onto the brush and start blending and doing the same if more pigment is required. I also recommend doing your eye makeup first if you don't already. This will let you wipe away any fall out that happens in the palette. I love the shade selection for autumn however the shade that fell extremely flat for me is cube. I don't know how I am going to use it, as it's not a shade that goes with any other shadow in this palette. Also the shade is very sheer and hard to build up even with a setting spray or fix+. Other than that, I've had no issues with any shade in the palette.
    honestly dissapointing
Poor quality. The construction of the palate is "Meh" at best, and the pigment is just NOT blendable. The colours are not true to pan as they are on your face. I was hopeful for this and wanted to be challenged by the unusual spectrum, but instead of being able to create fun looks, I am challenged with getting the colour to stick with no ability to blend. honestly go buy any other brand and save yourself the time and lost money.
    Amazing!
Where do I start? The color scheme of this palette is divine. So inspiring and unique. The texture of the shadows is absolutely fine, too. I have zero problems with fallout and the shades blend beautifully. I took my time with this and tested all shades in different combinations and I am falling in love with this palette even more by doing so. I don't feel that I have to be super-careful with these shadows. And it doesn't take me very long to finish an eye look either. If you're in for the color scheme and willing to play with the different textures, then go for it. Have fun!
    Really Anastasia? What is this?
I have played about with this palette a few times and I can't be any more disappointed. The matte shades are some of the mother pigmented eyeshadow I have ever seen (which is a good thing) but barely touching the palette with the brush causes a huge amount of kickback and eyeshadow to go all powdery all over the palette, causing a lot of fall out on application and making your eyes look very muddy and messy, especially the dark shades such as the colours untamed, all star, axis and rowdy. There are two beautiful iridescent shades in the palette called cube (iridecent pink) and electric (green blue shade) which were disappointing in pigmentation. I tried to amp up the pigmentation with setting sprays on the brush and dampening it but there was no difference. I also found that every single colour was incredibly tough to blend and looked very patchy and chalky when attempting to blend two different colours together. I own the Modern Renaissance palette and have had no problems like I've had with this palette. I have also done a comparison in the formulas used in this Subculture palette and the formula looks very different compared to the sister palette (modern renaissance). Don't waste your money, find dupes from morphe.
    So disappointed
I was so excited to get this palette when it first came out, and tried so hard to like it but it's just too much work. The mattes are incredibly pigmented so a light hand is essential, but even then they don't blend too well and it's easy to go overboard. The duo chromes sealed over the second I touched them with a dry finger, and they're now almost impossible to use without crumbling them up with a mixing medium or fix plus. Maybe I got a bad batch of those but I've heard similar things from a lot of people about those two shades. The responses from Norvina and Anastasia herself have actually put me off the brand slightly; I don't like the condescending nature of being told I'm using a product wrong when I am using it as instructed and in actual fact it's just a bad product (or at least there are bad batches in circulation). I think they tried very hard to make something different and innovative but it flopped massively for me.
    Meh
I bought it last week. It's so powdery, so much fall out. I think I still have the old version of the palette. But the pigmentation is good. Not that difficult to blend. But definitely not a palette for a beginner.
    Amazing
I think people is over reacted about that bb, it's amazing.
    Really disappointing
Absolutely stunning colours but huge fallout and difficult to blend. I haven't been heavy handed but the palette is very powdery and I suspect will fall apart at the slightest provocation.
***I have bought this palette without checking the reviews on the internet. Once I have read a few reviews (some of them quiet alarming), I came to regret my purchase before even receiving it. Once my order arrived, I tested the item and my first reaction was "not that bad at the end!". The palette is supposed to have a massive fall out due to the composition (Talc mainly). For those who already own a Tarte Cosmetic's palette (mainly composed of talc/mica as well), you have come to realise that it is not that big of an issue. One just needs to tap the brush to get rid of the excess before applying on the lids (and make sure to apply your foundation at the end). On top of that, not all of them are that "powdery". It also depends on which brush you are using. A blending brush will produce more fall out than a shader one. But yes, I have to say that All Star is a disaster xD! It definitely turns darker after application, and fade away as soon as I tried to blur it (best to avoid this one)! On the other hand New wave, Edge, Dawn, Roxy and Untamed are fabulous. Also, Electric and Cube don't have fall out at all. Good to know: better use a primer AND a neutral eye shadow before using the palette. If wet, the product will set in and turn darker. So 3 stars it is, because all the shade are very well pigmented and that they are fantastic for the winter season (big crush for New Wave and Edge) but I think that it should not be that complicated to use a palette.***
    Disappointed
The matte shadows and the shade 'adorn' are very pigmented when swatched but I find them quite difficult to blend out and honestly, when I look at the shades I can't see really any beautiful combos, especially as I like a shimmer on my lid. 'Cube' and 'electric' are not very pigmented and don't really look nice in any of the looks I've used them in (however 'cube' makes a cool inner corner and brow bone highlight). Furthermore, because of the shades it's also hard to do an everyday look. The eyeshadow always turns out too dramatic and dark in my opinion. I can make it work but I have to reach for shimmers in other palettes. Plus, the shade 'all star' and 'rowdy' oxidise a lot. I'll pack on the pigment on to my lid and within a couple of minutes half of it is gone. To be honest, I only really purchased this because the modern renaissance is my holy grail palette, so I was extremely disappointed with the way this palette blended, and the pigmentation of the shimmers compared to that one.
    Beautiful colour choices
I honestly don't understand the bad reviews, as long as you're gentle with your brush the palette is perfectly fine! The colours are absolutely gorgeous and incredibly pigmented
Treat like a pure pigment shadow
I ordered this palette as soon and it came out and was really worried after seeing reviews online, admittedly I did struggle at the start with the palette and threw in the towel, however after listening to professional makeup artist reviews I started treating the shadows as if they're pure pigments. Absolutely gorgeous palette when blended with little pressure and adding product in small doses!! It's definitely not a palette for beginners though
    A must have
I've been hearing horrible reviews, and was quite worried because I had already ordered mine, but the quality was excellent. Blendable and VERY pigmented. Just be careful when dipping your brush in the pan, because if you dip in too hard, the shadow will go everywhere. But because the shadows are so pigmented it shouldn't bother you, you'll get plenty on your brush.
    Gorgeous!
These eyeshadows are stunning. They are packed with so much pigment, you must go very light handed to be able to blend these shadows properly. You can't pack your brush full with product and try to blend that on your eyes, it just won't work with these shadows. They have some fallout because the way they are pressed, but if you don't have an issue with that I will 100% recommend this palette to you! Subculture is a little different from other palettes out there, but it'll work perfectly if you use it right. One of my favourite palettes at the moment.
    Beautiful colour coordination!
This palette is so beautiful, just like its sister palette Modern Renaissance. It's so bold, and colourful. Very unique. I love a quirky palette. The shadows are super soft and blendable. They are also pigmented. There is however, a fair amount of fall out from the palette. But if you go in lightly with your brushes, you should not have an issue. I've adapted on how to use this palette and so far I've created some stunning looks. Like mine, I hope it works for others!
    Subculture
I ordered this and received it a couple of days ago. I was so in love with the shades and wanted the palette so bad. I watched many reviews, all of which were either really positive or really negative. It was about 50/50 so I decided to buy and see for myself.I knew there would be a lot of a fallout due to the colour of the shades - they're difficult colours to make opaque. If you want good colour pay off, you have to add more pigment. More pigment means more fallout, and the shadows being more difficult to blend/work with. Individually, each shadow is pretty good. However for me they don't blend together. When trying to blend shades together your look will become a mess. There are harsh lines, the actual colours of the shadow change/oxidise and it all becomes extremely patchy. This basically defeats the whole point of making a palette - they don't work together at all. For the price especially, this was a disappointment. Two stars is generous - giving one for the nice packaging and one for the shades appearance on its own.
    Subculture
I love it!! it's soooo nice and pigmented and just as good as MR. It is a little powdery but not like anything crazy to be honest and I've had no problems blending it out at all.
    Best palette I ever bought
TBH, I bought the modern renaissance but she started getting boring so I bought this one, WOW. The colours are amazing and super pigmented, there is a bit of fallout but it's fine.
    Not a practical product
I am a hardcore ABH fan and user. The colours in this palette are beautiful and are pure pigments. Therefore they are lacking the oils to keep the product together. There is fall out with every shade. Some colours do blend darker or struggle to blend seamlessly compared to modern renaissance or prism. You need to use a light hand and press the shadows into your lids. I wouldn’t recommend this palette to a friend, it’s just not worth the effort for the price. ABH does have other outstanding products but this simply isn’t one.
    Amazing palette
I’m so glad I bought this palette! First of all the colour selection IS EVERYTHING, I absolutely love the range of combinations possible. The pigmentation is definitely there and unlike many other YouTubers I haven’t had any blending issues with it. I have used this palette 5 times so far snd I swear I didn’t notice as much fallout as in some of the reviews online. Despite all of this I don’t think it's an easy product as you have to take your time to build your look.
    Give it a go
I have at least 50 eyeshadow palettes and I reach for this one very often. I was sceptical because of all the negativity but I really like this palette. Yes it can be a bit powdery but you only need to tap your brush in once to get the pigmentatio you need any so you need a light hand, a couple of shades are a bit tough to blend but I’ve been wearing makeup long enough to be able to work around it, not sure it’s a beginner friendly palette but if you know how to work and blend eyeshadows well you’ll be fine & I would 100% give it a go.
    Yes, this pallete is crumbly
I bought this palette quite recently and I though that maybe, just maybe that it was only the first batches of this product that were faulty, nope, mine does the crumbly thing that's on YouTube. The shadows are beautiful, however you must use a very soft brush otherwise you will grind the shadow and hit pan immediately. The shimmers are great and the pigment is to die for, but for £41 it should not crumble and have that much fallout.
    Favourite
All the bad reviews on youtube are so untrue. They tried to make ABH look like.... It's my favourite palette now, I love how it looks on the eye and how it performs. The fact that it needs a light hand is true but I prefer that, at least for eyeshadow. But if you are a beginner you might have some problems in the beginning. STILL love it.
    Она великолепна ***This is Goregous***
***Read 5 reviews on it, but when I bought it myself, I did not notice those any flaws on the palette. With just one touch of a brush, It is incredibly pigmented! You can experiment with as many combinations as you like and all colours look good with each other, this palette is for all occasions. Without a doubt - I recommend this as it was one of the most pleasant purchases!***
    Lovelovelove
Only one thing to say, the pigment in the palette is AMAZING. And totally blendable, I prefer abh eyeshadow formulas than hb, slay abh, slay!
    Amazing
By far one of my favourite palette ever. I am not a makeup artist and have absolutely no issues blending or using this product in any way, so I have no idea how qualified makeup artists cannot use it. So many times when using this palette I have actually received comments from numerous people on the street complementing my makeup and asking what it is. Ignore the weird reviews, it’s a beautiful palette :)
    Perfecta
Me encanta esta paleta, ha pasado a ser de mis favoritas. No soy maquilladora profesional, pero no veo donde está el problema, simplemente tiene una gran pigmentación y solo se necesita aplicar con mano ligera para que pueda quedar espectacular. ***I love this palette, it has become my favorite. I'm not a professional makeup artist, but I do not see where the problem is, it just has a great pigmentation and it only needs to be applied with a light hand so that it can look spectacular.***
    Wanted to love it
It is unique, with incredible colours, quite pigmented and all that but I am unable to make it work. If I use 1 o 2 colours and blend very little it works. But when I try to do a more complex look is gets all muddy and messy. I am not a professional makeup artist but this palette is way too expensive to require that much work.
    Bad
So bad, I didn't like it at all. From now on I'll buy Mac and Huda Beauty; thats real quality.
    Totally worth it
I feel like this palette really showed how dishonest big influencers are and how little understanding they have of makeup beyond instagram and mediocre morphe shadows. This palette is softly pressed and highly pigmented. That means you only have to tap once or twice and the fallout is minimal and you can cover your whole lid or both of them with just that. There's no reason to tap in a few times or swirl the brush around only to tap the excess off and waste product. Use a light hand, tap once or twice only and go slowly and the palette is suddenly amazing. Like with any other product, you need to adjust to it to get the best of it. I don't know why everyone says it's not worth it because they need to learn a whole new way to apply it. I think everyone is capable of dipping their brush only once and going more slowly and lightly, nothing more. Forget the bad drama reviews and go for it, if you like the color selection, that is. Maybe wait a bit if you are an absolute beginner in makeup. That's all.
    Amazing
I love every single colour in this palette, glad bad reviews didn't put me off! I'm obsessed.
    Really good to use!
I got the palette in spite of watching the countless bashing reviews because the colours appealed to me. Yes, they are powdery - so are LORAC, UD and ND shadows which I own. I treat all my makeup with care so I have not had the "gallons" of kick-up like others. They are highly pigmented which is nice because it means I don't need to use as much to get the true colours. They blend quite nicely for me too. I set my eyes with a powder anyway so maybe for my oily eyelids it works. Also, I think people need to realize that this palette has complimentary colours which if mixed and blended can turn muddy and grey. I agree that the way Norvina handled the back lash on the palette was not that professional and not everyone is comfortable with a highly pigmented palette being not marketed as such. But it comes down to technique for me. Also, people need to realize this is makeup. It's not the end of the world!
    Better than expected
Not sure if the reviews are talking about this palette :| I didn't have much expectations because of the hype. I chose the palette because the colours are quite different and the pigment is just amazing... the glitters a little less but you just need to pack a little more on. The blend out quite easily (I do use a primer which might make it easy to blend). I like the palette overall even the yellow shades (not usually a fan of yellow).
    Ahh-mazing!
When I ordered the palette I was worried due to all the negativity around the Subculture palette. Worried for nothing! I created an amazing look with the shadows which every single one of them blended seamlessly and effortlessly. There is no significant amount of fallout, not more than the Modern Renaissance palette and I experienced no blending issues. Shadows are very pigmented so two tiny taps are enough to grab the pigment. So glad I bought this.
    quality
I didn't know what to expect with this palette due to all the mixed reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. the colours are very pigmented and easier to blend than people have claimed. There is some fallout, but it isn't a massive issue, as I use a light hand when dipping into the colour needed. This palette has easily became one of my favourites.
    IN LOVE
I really love this palette, colours are very pigmented and they are simple to blend.
    Beautiful
    I love it
    So disappointed
Bought this pallet without looking at reviews as Anastasia's last pallet modern renaissance I fell in love with. I had so much confidence in it, bought it and then tried it out. Colours are very pigmented which is beautiful about the pallet but blending the colours are shocking its really bad that they thought that this should be sold like this, I feel it is very messy and I'm just so disappointed.
    Make your own choice!
I ordered this palette before watching the reviews, when I eventually watched them, I was terrified for the palette to arrive. However, after using it, I feel like it was drama over perhaps a bad batch/samples they have been sent. I ADORE this palette so much. Hardly any fall out. Little pressure is needed and you only need to tap ONCE to get so much pigment. Unique, beautiful colours. Perfect for those who are already comfortable with applying eyeshadow. Please do not let the reviews on YouTube make your decision for you. I'm so glad I bought it.
Pretty, but doesn't work at all
It's such a beautiful palette, I wanted it to work so badly but nothing blends and the colours almost fight each other on your eye. So disappointed because I love the modern Renaissance palette. Maybe they will relaunch it with a better formula and I will buy it again but for now it doesn't work.
    Is it worth it? YES
A great colour selection which gives you the freedom to create a ton of unique looks. Pro's : - Pigmented - make sure you apply small amounts at first then gradually build up the intensity. A little goes a long way. - Colour selection - get to know the colours, how they pair with other shades & move out of your comfort zone. - Wear - similarly to the MR palette, these shades perform well on the lid and last all day. I use concealer to prime my lids. - Blendability - these shades blend well so long as you start off with little product and build up. Cons : - Brushes - imo the darker shades apply better with smaller, dense brushes. Applying with a larger, fluffy brush makes it harder to blend out. - Certain shades look different in the pan than when they're applied i.e. destiny and mercury - Learn your way around the palette. It takes time to see how each shades applies on the lid and more importantly, how they pair with other shades. Be sparing when applying the deeper shades as they can be trouble if you go in with a heavy hand. A great sister palette to the MR, I am impressed. This palette has been quite the controversy and rather than form a negative review based on what other people have said, try this palette for yourself. See how it works for you, learn new ways to use the palette in terms of shades and application.
Gorgeous palette of cool fall colours
This is a lovely palette of unusual shades. I was wary after seeing all the reviews on social media, but haven't found there to be excessive fall out. Some fallout is to be expected with any matte shades. This is a lovely usable palette with richly pigmented shades. Don't be put off and try for yourself.
    Nothing but love
Amazing palette. Just love the colour selection. Pigmentation is also amazing. I don't get all the bad stuff about it I just use super soft brushes and do not tap to hard in the pan. I have zero fallout and it also blends easily and without patchiness.
    Beautiful and Unique
I don't understand all the bad press this palette's been getting. I highly recommend it based on my experience using it. I've found it wonderfully pigmented (almost more so than Modern Renaissance,in fact) and really blendable. The shadows also wear well on my eyes throughout the day. You have to be very gentle when using these. Just touch your brush in the pan and then gently pat the colour onto your eye before you start blending. That'll help you avoid fallout and any patchiness/skipping due to having applied too much pigment. I haven't actually had much of an issue with fallout but I've always had a very light hand. Finally, the colour selection in this palette is fantastic. It's unique. I wouldn't usually go for yellows but in the context of this palette they really work and the shade range means it's easy to create both quirky and natural looks.
Don't listen to the drama too much
I get that people used the release of this palette as an opportunity to get in the spotlight but this palette was nothing like they made it seem! Truly a sister palette to the MR with high pigmentation and beautiful shades.
    Beautiful Gorgeous product
This palette is everything. I've been hearing mixed reviews, mostly bad but I did not find anything wrong with this product. I own the Modern Renaissance palette and this palette is as equally good. So glad I spent my money on the Subculture palette.
    Subculture Palette
I really don't understand the bad press this palette was getting. Super pigmented, easy to blend and gorgeous colour selection. The palette is a bit powdery but if you are light handed with brushes it works just as well as other ABH shadows. I wouldn't recommend using the brush which comes with the palette (though it is a great brush to use with other shadows) as I believe it is too hard for the soft shadows. I had this same problem with the brush on my Modern Renaissance palette.
    Do not buy!!
Chalky, powdery and so much fallout! Just the worst palette I have tried.
    Subculture
Really disappointed in this palette, not like the modern renaissance. I wanted to love it but the fact its difficult to blend and layer shadows it was a massive let down. MR palette is and always will be the best.
