THE INKEY LIST Vitamin C Serum Reviews

    Terrible consistency
This product might have been good, but the consistency made it completely unusable to me. It's this thick silicone consistency that pills as soon as you try putting it on your face. Layering other products or makeup on top is impossible. I regret buying this product.
    No
I didnt like it AT ALL.
    not great
won't buy this again. the texture is weird, kind of gritty, and is uncomfortable to spread onto my face. Haven't noticed an improvement with my skin either and I have been using it for a few months. Not awful just meh.
    Nope
The texture was very gritty, did not spread properly and leaves white patches on the skin. It is also very irritating and made my face sting, I tried mixing with the hyaluronic acid as suggested but it still stung just not as much.
    Very disappointed
I have been using this for a long time and I had high hopes for this product, it has not brightened my skin at all or made any difference to it. It is also quite irritating to my skin. Overall, I am very disappointed.
Blurs and Glows Like a Dream. Peels and Clumps Like a Nightmare!
This serum makes my skin super glowy and incredibly soft but clumps and peels up on the skin massively. I've tried only using a small pea size amount and mixing it with moisturiser, hyaluronic acid, eye cream and a couple other serums but nothing works for me. It all just clumps. I don't understand what I must be doing wrong. It has lovely glowy effects but I touch my face once and it looks like my skill is coming off in clumps.
    Won't buy it again
This serum did make my skin looks a little brighter and blurs it, but it peels of later in the day. Nice, but won't buy it again
Kind of loved it, kind of hated it
I tried it for a good week or two and I just really didn't like it. It was so patchy and I just couldn't smear it how I wanted it to. A few weeks ago I saw a video of Hyram explaining that you should mix it with another serum or cream, from that moment on a new world opened for me! It's a shame that the brand didn't put any of this information on the bottle. On other things they put disclaimers like this (for instance: with the retinol serum there is a tip that if you have sensitive skin, it is nice to put niacinamide first, so it doesn't irritate the skin)
    Smells So Strange
Like many other reviewers have pointed out: this is not a serum. It is a paste. It is hard to smooth into skin without the hyaluronic acid to thin it out and even then it stings a tremendous amount. It does make my skin look brighter (hence the four stars) but the issue I have is after using this in the morning for a couple of weeks I noticed that my hands were smelling like pennies and copper and I couldn't figure out why. I HATED IT. I went one day without the serum and they didn't smell at all. It's a good product for the price but the consistency and the smell make me unsure of re-purchasing.
    Not a fan..
I love the inkey list and I generally feel that their formulations are better than the ordinary. But when it comes to this product, I was really disappointed. It’s a high concentration of vitamin c and I could definitely feel the tingle and sometimes discomfort. The formulation is so Silicony so very thick and heavy that I couldn’t bare it anymore. Impossible to wear under makeup and even at night it felt uncomfortable. Maybe it works if u can bare the feeling of something heavy on ur face that’s not gonna sink in. But for me I stopped using it completely.
    Use at ur own risk
My skin is pretty resilient, as i’ve been using tretinoin for a year with no ill effects at all even in initial stage. However, the first time I used this Vitamin C, my skin burned. I slathered on hyaluronic acid as advised on the packaging, but it didn’t help. I decided to remove it after 10 min. But it was too late by then. I was left with angry red patches, and over the next few days, scabs formed. First time ever that I got such drastic reaction from a product. Obviously, this product works for some people, but you may not be one of them. Suggest you dilute it first. And this is one product you MUST patch test.
    Horrible
This product burns and makes my skin dry immediately after putting it on. Made my skin feel dirty and feels expired even though it’s not. It’s mattifying which is horrible because it’s not a primer and should be used at night because the sun can react with vitamin c!!! Threw it away, as a cosmétologist this is horrible please don’t waste your money and break your skin
    Amazing product
It did take me some time to get used to this product due to its thick consistency and it being quite strong. The first week of using this product in the morning I experienced a tingling on my face, my skin build up some tolerance within a week though. It is an extremely thick product, but my skin seems to love it and I can easily apply it on my face. Mixing the Vitamin C serum with a few drops of Hyaluronic acid is recommended to create a lighter consistency. I started seeing great results after about a month of using this product, my skin is visibly lighter and my overall skin tone is more even.
    Stings and turns skin yellow.
When I first got this product, I was so excited to use it after looking at such positive reviews. However, after using it I realised it made my skin react by tingling, and overnight it formed a cast of yellow on my face. I noticed it was this serum as I removed it out of my skincare for a week and realised it wasn't any other product. Would not recommend unless you buy hyaluronic acid (which it says on the tube and not when you buy it) or if you like a yellow face :)
Although Stingy I feel it does the job
It’s a good Vitamin C serum, a bit thick but it really does the job. I use it am and it’s really helping to clear my acne that comes from time to time and my skin is brighter. I’m on the second bottle.
    Ok
Well, given the rave reviews and recommendations, I had to try it. I have, and I’m afraid I have seen no difference whatsoever in my skin. I’m 59, and my skin is pretty good - no problems or issues. I’d hoped for some brightening.
    Disappointed
I usually buy The Ordinary products but after reading the reviews for this I thought I'd give it a go. I've used it almost every day for a month in the morning and at night so I've given it a fair go. Very disappointed! It tingles/slightly stings on the skin but very tolerable, which tricked me into thinking it was doing something worthwhile. There are no noticeable changes in my skin at all and if anything it has actually dried my skin out when I never have dry skin. When you rub it it leaves a weird residue on your skin and does not feel nice. I will try some other products but this one was definitely not for me.
    silicone feel
Bought this vitamin C for price and promise it gave in description however has a really horrible silicon feel when you rub it in between your fingers and on your face. Found the texture didn't mesh well with my other skin products nor makeup. Definitely depends on what other products you use, as many products have silicones in them and work great. However, texture is definitely a preference so depends if you don't mind using a silicone based serum. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the results of the serum on skin
    Great intro to Vitamin C
Really good product if you're looking to experiment with vit C. Love using it when my skin is congested and a bit dull. Make sure you always moisturise well after use as can be quite harsh, and do not use if you have any open spots or anything like that as it can be quite stingy. Smell isn't great but it's not really too big of a deal given the price.
    Amazing but difficult
I personally love this product. It has a thick consistency but somehow it works with my skin. I have normal skin, with the tendency to get dry in some areas (cheeks) and congested in others (nose). For me, it works the best at day time under sunscreen. It does not sting my skin even with such a high level of Vit C and surprisingly it does not roll. I find my skin very smooth and bright when I use it.
    Meh
Haven't used a Vitamin C serum before but wanted to give this a try, I have blemish prone skin and I found this stings a lot when I put it on, although it has got better recently. I must say though I haven't noticed a difference in my skin. The serum is matte and more of a paste texture, I don't love the way it feels on my skin if I'm honest, however will keep trying it.
    Good
It has a strong smell and slightly gritty feel on the skin but if you want cheap vitamin c then defo buy this.
    Great for the price
This is an intense 30% Vitamin C serum, although the texture doesn’t feel like a traditional serum, more like a paste/thick emulsion. Another great product from The Inkey List and like the rest budget friendly and effective. I did find that on first application my skin was slightly red and tingled but having used this now for over a month my skin has adapted to the tingling sensation. I find this works great during the day but also have used it in my PM routine and love the way it makes my skin look. Unsure id repurchase as there are other Vit C serums that work better on my skin but still a great product nonetheless
    Consistency
I have been using the Vitamin C Serum for a few weeks now, as well as the salicylic cleanser. I am wondering why it has such a dry consistency for a serum? It comes out of the container as a white cream and apples very dry to the touch. Did I just get a bad one or is it supposed to be this dry? The salicylic cleanser is a winner, cleans well and leaves skin feeling fresh and clean.
    Pore clogging
Unfortunately this clogged my pores giving the appearance of dark blackheads by the end of the day. It's a real shame because the tingle of the product suggests that it's probably doing something positive.
    Feeling silky
This leaves my face feeling silky. I have had no problems. As to if it makes any difference I don’t know, but I Love it.
    Great product
The best Vitamin C value for money! Firms the skin, helps reduce redness, I also like its dry-ish texture.
    Not impressed
This product was recommended in a magazine for age spots. I have 2 on my face and have been using this product but age spots have not faded at all. If you put the product over a large area of your face, it tingles to the point you want to wash it off. Do not recommend, waste of my hard earned money!!
    YESS
It has been about a month since I have purchased the vitamin C serum and I have seen an overall improvement in my face. My face looks brighter and my acne scars have almost complete faded. It says to apply morning and night but I only use it in the night and it has worked great for me. Definitely recommend purchasing this serum and I will purchase this again!
    It stings like crazy!
Firstly it’s so difficult to apply the product due to its texture and once I apply it stings like crazy. I have active acne and scars in the same area with pigmentation so vitamin C is supposed to be ideal but this formula tingles a lot more than little. It is affordable but not worth the buy!
    Too much silicone
Pros: it really does contain a lot of C vitamin, which is great because it makes this serum really powerful. Cons: silicone texture is really difficult to tolerate, maybe make sense to use at night time. Viktoriya here mentioned that it doesn't really contain silicone, but come on: 2 types of dimethicone and Polysilicone out of 4 ingredients...
    One of the best
I notice reduction in my PIH/PIE within a few 2 weeks of use and skin tone is more balanced. however this could lead to some piling when apply so try on error really matters which suits you the best. I overcome by using this as my first serum and avoid the piling issue. the serum is super potent does do expect some tingling sensation when apply for sensitive skin like mine. love, will repurchase.
    Mix this with HA
I LOVE this! I have been using this daily (am) for more than 6 weeks now and my skin has improved. My hyper-pigmentation and acne marks have lighten and I can't wait to see how my skin will turn out in the coming months. Will definitely repurchase this!
    Great little find
Only been using this product for about two weeks but already feel like it it has improved my skin. Unlike other reviews, I feel like once you’ve cleansed your skin it sits very nicely on top without flaking or peeling. Will definitely buy again especially for the price!
    Vile Texture
I can't speak of the efficacy of the product because I just can't get over the texture. You literally drag it over your skin and it rolls up whenever you put something else on top of it. Really disappointed to find a product which might be amazing but can't be used because it is so thick and waxy. 1 star because why make a product that people can't use?
    On The Fence
Really want to like this product (and brand) but the texture puts me right off. It's thick and paste-like which makes it hard to apply as you almost have to drag it across your face. It seems to sit on the skin and I had white flaky build up which only worsened when I touched my face. Could not imagine putting makeup over it - big no no! Can't speak to it's efficacy - definitely more silicone than I'm comfortable with, given I'm an acne sufferer. Will probably use once a fortnight at night until it runs out so as not to waste it.
    Nothing special
The texture is a bit unexpected, it's a bit waxy and artificially smooth, leaves a prickly sensation after applying. I've been using it for about two weeks and I haven't noticed any changes, better or worse (at least it didn't give me breakouts). Good start if you want a vitamin C serum in your routine, but overall, nothing special.
    Effective Vitamin C
I've tried numerous vitamin c products with varying results. I will say that I have seen a brightening effect with this product and can see the difference in my skin. The drawback is the silicones in the formula which make it difficult to use much of anything else in my morning skincare routine. I find with this product it is best to keep my routine simple (cleanse, vitamin c, moisturiser, spf) otherwise anything else will pill up on top of it. I will most likely order again, but not for use on my face. The price makes it great to use on hands or chest where the texture and product layering challenges aren't as much of a concern.
    Not recommended for Eczema-prone skin
I'm used to most products stinging a bit, but this was pretty sore even on the slightest Eczema-y dry bit. Also, the other reviewers weren't kidding - the texture is really thick, considerably more than even my prescription moisturiser. Have given to a friend to try instead as I'm sure it'll work for some people!
    Silicone heavy
I wanted to like this so much and I’m sure for some people it will be really effective as it has a high percentage of vitamin C. It’s in a silicone base though and I found the texture to be really heavy. It didn’t sit well under my makeup, I became shiny after a few hours and I had a breakout of spots after using. I hadn’t changed anything else in my routine other than trying the Inkey list hyaluronic serum, which is lovely. I will stick to the Garden of Wisdom vitamin C serum which is lovely and light and more suitable for daytime use.
    Love it
Whenever I get a new skincare product I'm like "yes this is it, this is gonna change everything" and it always ends the same, it does nothing or it breaks me out, badly! This however, has helped so much, yes its in silicone which my skin normally doesn't like but honestly. My skin is smoother, the texture is better, the tone is better and my hormonal acne scarring is improving little by little. I'm loving it. New staple in my routine
    AMAZING
I have bought because usually I like Vitamin C for my skin, I applied it on clean skin after the bath, and I was really disappointed, it felt like a Smashbox primer, sooooo silicone like. After I googled and discovered that it doesn't have silicone at all, it is just a water free texture. I have very oily skin, so this really made my skin matte, and when I woke up in the morning, I was amazed, my skin was not greasy (when i wake up its usually too much), all the small breakdowns & redness on my skin were gone! as well as the small wrinkles also felt less visible. I have been searching for this product all my life! Now my skin is smooth, NOT SHINY and looks beautiful and healthy! Cannot wait to try other products from this brand. If you have oily skin this is a must have <3
    Loving it
My skin was feeling a bit irritated and I felt like there had not been a change for ages, however, this product has really lifted my skins appearance.
    Not what i expected
Really unhappy with this product. Doesn't spread on skin very well and comes off in bits throughout the day.
Had high hopes for this product
I don’t usually leave reviews, but unfortunately have to this time due to this being one of the biggest disappointments I’ve had with skincare yet. I was so excited to try this (first time shopping Inkey List) and was mindful of the reviews when I bought it. I know I was to expect a weird consistency, When I tried it, it was so thick I couldn’t just spread it on my skin on its own. I tried layering it on top of my hyaluronic acid serum first, then even tried moisturizer since I was so desperate to make it work. But I wasn’t seeing any results, and it was just uncomfortable - My boyfriend started pointing out that I had “white patchy stuff” on my face - turns out it was the serum. So I stopped layering it and started to try to put it on its own (I thought that was causing it not to brighten anything) - total mistake.
    Disappointed
I was really looking forward to trying this product. I was so disappointed in the texture. It doesn’t feel like a serum and doesn’t penetrate well into the skin. It also leaves a white residue on the skin. Haven’t noticed any visible results either!
    Disappointed
Texture is terrible. Does not spread properly, leaves white cast patches everywhere. Tried mixing it with the inkey list niacinamide serum to spread it better but it did not make much difference. It was also very irritating, I will go for something with less percentage of vitamin c next time.
    Irritated my face
Bought this but couldn’t continue using it. I don’t generally react badly to skincare products but when I would put this on it would irritate my face. It would start like a tingling feeling and my face would because very irritated and itchy and wouldn’t calm down for 20 minutes. There was no redness so I think it was just the way it was working. I stopped using it cause I couldn’t bare the sensation any longer.
The only am Vitamin C serum that works for me!
Is this patchy and a bit difficult to spread out? yes! But I follow with the inkey list vitamin A and B moisturiser and it works wonders. Really good and honestly, my skin looks great all day!
    The best vitamin c
I have to mix it with my cream but I love it.
    Love it
I loooovvve this product. The best vitamin c I have used. It’s so nice, once you put it on it blurs the skin also.
    paste not serum
This didn't work for me. After the first use, it became like a mattifying primer but left a coating on my face that peeled off later in the day leaving bits on my face. I've used other vitamin c serums that work better for me - liquid rather than paste - that absorb into the skin. I have combination skin.
Would not call it a serum
Very thick consistency that sadly just wasn’t for me. More like a paste than any of the other serums I’ve used before. I had issues with pilling (at all stages of application) and just generally didn’t enjoy using it at all. I love so many of the Inkey List products, but I’m afraid this one just wasn’t for me.
    Amazing
I love this product; my nose is usually really sensitive in the sun and becomes red far quicker than the other areas of my face, however after using this vic c most days and it has seriously evened out the tone. It is a thick consistency and initially I was frustrated by how little it spread, however if you put a pea size dollop on the back of your hand (garden, not petit pois), it's easier to assess how much you need for each bit of face and it spreads like a treat.
    Not For Me!
Arrived promptly and undamaged. This is the time I've tried this Vit.C serum ~ and it will be the last! The consistency for a Vit. serum is just weird. It has a thick, grainy feel to it, and as for layering with other serums and cream, forget it! Sorry, but won't be re-ordering this one.
    Dreadful consistency...
I have tried this product only two times but I’m not going to continue. The consistency is terrible, it feels like a very fine sandpaper on the skin when applying. It seems like it has some tiny bits inside rubbing on the skin, looks quite like flour mixed with something and seems to leave a thin white film. The “peasized” amount they recommend applying is impossible to do due to how extremely thick and somehow dry it seems on the face - after a few strokes you can’t feel it under your fingers anymore. Skin feels dry and covered in film after it, strangest consistency I have ever seen in a most negative way possible.
    Disappointing
The consistency of this product is honestly awful, I’ve realised now the vitamin c works a lot better for me in an oil form rather than this thick almost grainy consistency that just wouldn’t sink into my skin well.
    Not great
Very very bizarre consistency, burns upon application and doesn’t apply well. Feels grainy. Potentially brightening but unsure as use a variety of other products alongside. Wouldn’t recommend.
    Really stung
Where my skin can be a bit dull, I wanted a Vit C product to give it more life and a bit of a glow. I've used one or two other Vit C products but thought I'd give this a go but it was so painful. I suffer with breakouts and it stung so much my eyes watered and I was rubbing at my face to make it stop. Yes after a few minutes it would stop and I know some tingling is normal but this was insane. Even if my skin was clear and I had a breakout I couldn't see/wasn't aware of yet it would sting so much. I have oily skin and it did make it smooth and soft but if you have any form of breakout or even a blemish don't put this product over that area at all.
    Dislike the Texture
The consistency of this product is very matte and drying and can sting. Its a dry paste that doesn't spread around the face with ease. I have combination skin and hate the feeling of it on the dryer spots of my face. Iv'e used 3/4 of the tube to see if the results are worth putting up with the texture but haven't noticed a change in my skin personally. I like the price and the squeezable tube though.
    Very average
I do appreciate that this serum is not water based and 30%, however it just doesn’t feel good on the skin and leaves a really annoying residue after rubbing it in. I’ll stick to using this only when I can’t afford my usual vitamin C serum.
Exceptionally high potency for such a low price!
I've tried a number of Vit. C formulas that cost many times more than this product & which only contained a fraction of the strength that this vitmain C cream contains, seriously. Although, this isn't a runny serum by any means, it feels more like a primer since it contains silicones. To mitigate any irritation from using such a potent formula & thus, drastically improving its wear ability. I mix 3-5 drops of The Inkey Hyaluronic Acid serum in with this to break up its consistency, which makes it then absorb like a dream, & without any redness. Plus, it holds my makeup in place All day (which is rare for my combo/oily skin) & I can change the amount I use depending on what my skin needs for that day! This definitely packs a punch on its strength alone, but together, with the Hyaluronic acid serum, this has become one of the very best smoothing "primers" in my arsenal to date.
Lovely texture and good under makeup
So impressed with this. Goes on so nicely and makes my skin feel amazing. My makeup goes on so nicely as well. I have used The Ordinary vitamin c but found that made my skin sting and had bits in. Not the case here - no gritty bits or making my skin sensitive. Vitamin c is meant to be brightening the skin, which I can’t say I have noticed yet, but will wait to give it a good month of consistent use.
    Amazing
Friend of mine recommended the product as saying it was amazing, it really is! I have used other serums with Vitamin C but they only tempt my skin. At the beginning when I started using my serum it stinks my skin but it got better over time. I apply it in the morning and after that, I use a Natural Moisturizing Factors +HA. I order for the fifth time.
My most fav of all times
I missed it so much during our crazy summer here. Finally, I have it again and enjoy the reflection in the mirror each time when I put it on my face. It becomes matte with even tone & pores are clean!
    No improvement
I wouldn't say this is a bad product (it is a vitamin C for a very reasonable price point after all) but I must say I didn't see any results after using this. My skin sure feels silky afterwards but I see no improvement of any kind to my skin. This didn't hit the spot for me and I would not repurchase.
    Effective
For the past 20 days I have been using this in my PM routine and I have seen a definite evenness in my skin tone and slight lightening of age spots. I am going to buy again.
    Recommend
Have added this into my daily skincare routine with Hyaluronic acid - noticed such a change to the texture of my skin even after 1 week of use! The addition of the acid helps to calm the tingling sensation, but this is such a great value product with noticeable results.
    Mix with another serum
The key with this one is to mix with your chosen serum. Works a treat.
    On the fence
My skin looks amazing after using this, but the smell, burning and thick waxy texture make this unpleasant to use. Makeup on top rolls off with this.
    LOVE
I’ve seen a few people complain about its texture. I use mine mixed with hyaluronic acid and it glides on so easily!!! Never use alone. And slowly build up tolerance. My skin glows and feels phenomenal after use. Also could mix with ferulic as it amplifies the vitamin C!
    Not under make up
The texture of this product makes it very difficult to apply. It doesn't spread smoothly and when I put make up on top, everything came off my face. So I definitely can not use it under make up. I have been using it at nights instead and that way it works, but wanted a product for AM use, so not really satisfied with this.
    Great product
I have only used this a few days, but I really like it, especially for the price. It is kind of a dry, waxy product, but not flakey and it doesn't feel dry on your skin or dry it out. It almost acts like an amazing 'gap filler'! It is definitely not greasy or oily. Wonderful as a makeup primer. For the price, it is definitely worth a go, I'd buy again :)
    Meh
Cant really say much about the effect because I didn't continue using it after some days because of the texture, it felt waxy, and rolls right off again. Not for me.
    Will repurchase
I mix a pea-sized amount with some Hyaluronic Acid serum and it spreads nicely without stinging. Liked it more than The Ordinary. Skin looks clearer and feels smoother.
    Really good, but...
My skin looks refreshed, glowing and SO even after use. I get compliments! However, it stings quite bad and the texture is thick waxy and it peels.
    Not ideal for everyone
With the addition of silicone in this, if you have visible or deep pores I wouldn't recommend it. As a post-acne sufferer, it clogged up my pores BIG TIME. That being said, if pores are something you have no problem with, this does do a good job with mild hyperpigmentation.
    Amazing.
Love this product to death! Amazing.
    Interesting.
I love the tingle, and it does even the skin tone, but it's full of silicone. I will continue using it but not sure I'd repurchase. It's good enough for the price.
    Not for me.
I wanted to love this as it has a great concentration of Vitamin C but it’s not for me. I needed a product for day time use but this is only suitable for night time use as the texture isn’t good for under makeup. It also leaves a white cast on my skin. I’m fair skinned so I can only imagine it’s worse for those with darker skin tones.
    Obsessed
This is amazing. Leaves your skin so soft and glowy. What a bargain!
    Disappointing
I wanted to love this, but I was disappointed. The texture is awful. Way too heavy and difficult to spread and so silicone-heavy that I had to bin it. It made anything on top of it pill up and felt too occlusive.
    Better than the average
Let me start by saying my skin is dry + dehydrated, very sensitive and I'm 29. I'm always hesitant trying new products but I thought the price was worth it. I find that vitamin C can be tricky for sensitive skin types but this one did not give me any problems whatsoever, it did not break me out and other vitamin C serums did, even high end. It is pretty dimethicony though so I don't use it pm and I don't use it every morning. But overall it is a good product.
    Hated it...
I really wanted to love this especially at the price point - but I’ve never disliked a product on first use more. The texture is just awful, no slip, silliconey, just feels horrible. I’ve tried mixing it with HA as they suggest but still not for me.
