You’ve heard of multi-masking, now try multi-misting

Given how super-lightweight they are, layering several facial mists to protect and treat your skin throughout the day is a no-brainer when you think about it. Not just an indulgent, glow-giving treat for thirsty, dull complexions, a face mist can provide a multitude of benefits, from protecting against UV and pollutants, to prolonging your make up’s staying power. Hence why the new craze for ‘multi-misting’ isn’t a gimmick – in fact, it’s perfect for anyone who loves customising their skin care.

It was bloggers’ favourite {Pixi} who first drew our attention to this intriguing ritual, when they suggested fans layer up their much-loved facial mists. For example, once you’ve cleansed your skin in the morning, you first feed your face with their {Vitamin Wakeup Mist} – it refreshes and enlivens dulled, fatigued complexions with a hefty dose of energising nutrients – before {Glow Mist} infuses parched cells with a blend of all-natural oils and extracts to soothe skin and create a hydrating base for make up. And before you leave the house, a spritz of their {Make Up Fixing Mist} is perfect for keeping your base firmly in place.

But you don’t need to layer on different mists all at once, you can also switch them up throughout the day. In the morning, we like to start with FARMACY’s {Skin Dew}, which is brilliant for refreshing and toning the skin post-cleanse (and bestows a beautifully dewy, post-workout glow that lasts). Then to protect against the everyday environmental onslaught (city dwellers take note!), we’ve been adding REN’s {Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist} to create an invisible ‘force field’ between face and the elements, while Pixi’s {Sun Mist} acts like a ‘parasol’ – deflecting harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Come the afternoon, we’re delving into our handbags for Allies of Skin’s {Molecular Saviour Mist}. It’s perfect for topping up hydration levels and delivering a dewy glow thanks to the ‘anti-evaporation molecules’ that create a moisture barrier on the skin. And once we get home in the evenings, out comes Aurelia’s {Calming Botanical Essence}. It doesn’t just settle a tired, irritated complexion, but the special blend of essential oils works to calm the mind and help dispel those daily stresses.

Our verdict? If you’re not a fan of suffocating your skin with various lotions and potions, ‘multi-misting’ is a more gentle way to hydrate, protect and soothe skin from morning to night (you won’t smudge your make up either). Plus, skin care benefits aside – the idea of having a ‘wardrobe of mists’ on your work desk or bedside table is wonderfully decadent, no?
