What began as ‘an experiment in candle making’, quickly ignited the passions of those with a penchant for life’s finer things… The brainchild of two fashion veterans – Matthew Herman and David Kien – Boy Smells defies gender stereotypes and the brand, from design through to fragrance, successfully straddles the binary. Candles for every identity, Boy Smells blends typically ‘masculine’ scents with a medley of ‘feminine’ florals, resulting in candles that challenge traditional classifications and put a fresh, 21st Century spin on perfumery doctrine. Expect the unexpected…
A resinous blend that’s the perfect olfactory ‘soundtrack’ to moments of ‘me time’, Boy Smells’ HINOKI FANTÔME Candle helps to elevate your self-care – conjuring a sense of calm to aid your relaxation.
A quiet, woody chorus with a sexy, smoky quality, this complex aroma stars Japanese cypress and jasmine with cardamom, moss and guiac. Mellow and meditative with a clean, earthy tang, the smooth smoky scent of hinoki – a vibrant timber – brings a unique, soul-expanding aroma that’s shown to alleviate stresses and help you achieve inner peace. Stunningly spiritualistic, this makes a great gift for a friend who’s decidedly frazzled, and works in your study or burned by the bath to inspire a semblance of ‘zen’.
For optimal burning, trim wicks to a ¼” before each light to avoid smoking and overheating. Once the flame is extinguished make sure the wick is upright and centred. The first burn of any candle should be long enough for the entire top layer of wax to liquify. This will ensure an even burn for each light. Refrain from burning candles longer than three hours at a time, and never burn a candle when there is less than ¼” of wax at the base. Always protect the surface on which the candle sits.
Approx. 50 hrs burn time.
Coconut and beeswax blend with braided cotton wick, in glossy black glass tumbler.

Smoky
Smoky and elegant , not as strong as I was expecting but definitely a great candle that you can combine with other sweeter scents nicely

Smoky
It’s a unique scent, very smoky and can be combined nicely with other candle scents like vanilla. I give it a 4 cause I was expecting a better throw, is not as overpowering as I would hope for, but it lingers in the room nicely after

Unusual and beautiful candle
This is such a great scent, it’s smoky and warm and my absolute favourite new candle. Boy smells packaging is really beautiful too, they look great on display and the wax is such high quality you can smell them strongly even when not lit

Beautifully sweet and smoky
One of my favourite candles, smoky with a warm sweetness to it, balanced between herbal and floral. Glorious.

Actually not bad
At first when I got this out of the box, I honestly thought it smelled a bit like bacon! Smells completely different when burning though and I actually really like it!

Poor burn quality
I wanted to be in love with this as I was caught by the story of Boy Smells' creation and gender forward branding. The packaging and scent are excellent, very tactile and quite sexy with a delicious smokey sweet aroma that is perfect for creating an intimate, cosy feel to a space. That's why I've given three stars. Perhaps it was a poor one-off but the burn quality was terrible. I'm used to having high quality candles that burn clean and level from first lighting. This does not. After two hours wax was clinging to the sides of the glass. Second time it started tunnelling. The wick is too large as it forms a 'black cauliflower' needing trimming after only an hour of use or less. I'll be switching back to my usual brand as this seems more of a 'display' type candle than one meant for regular use.

New favourite candle
You don’t quite know if you’re going to love a candle bought online but I’m so glad I bought this! It has such a beautiful smokey, woody smell with slight sweet spiciness to it (not in a sickly way). I’m definitely going to buy this again and have already ordered one for my brother as I know he’ll love it too. I also bought the Les candle which is lovely but this is by far my fave!
