Glitter isn’t going anywhere: here are 4 new ways to try the trend

Glitter isn’t going anywhere – especially now that you can amplify your handiwork with magic apps like Kirakira (*we die*) – which takes even the glitteriest glitter to ridiculous new heights of hypnotism. So, with sparkles still so firmly on the beauty radar, we sought some inspiration from spring/summer’s make up trends to bring you four exciting ways to frost your face throughout the winter…

Keep it low key

A subtle dot or narrow (vertical) stripe beneath the middle of the lower lashline is a cute way to acknowledge the ongoing obsession. A glitter-flecked eyeliner or a dampened brush dipped in your favourite, sequin-speckled shadow shade will make it easy to look totally on-trend with zero effort (that’s what we call a ‘win win’). Look to Anna Sui for inspiration, where make up maestro Pat McGrath traced narrow ‘tears’ of turquoise shimmer using {balm} mixed with loose pigment.

Mix multiple shades

At TOPSHOP, models’ lids were laced with multi-tonal shimmers, blended to create a traffic-stopping wash of cool, chameleonic colour that brought disco diva vibes to the proceedings. Concentrated on the outer corners, eyes were washed with hologpraphic shadow and the lightest glaze of gloss before the glitter was applied around the outskirts. We love the likes of Sara Hill’s {Glitter} in ‘Galaxy’, and also worship Violet Voss’s chic, {Sophisticated Sparkles} in shade ‘Venus’ – tiny, holographic particles to make your peepers ‘pop’.

Glow for it

If you’re a party girl at heart, now is the perfect time to get your glam on with high-impact, glitter-dusted eyelashes and lightly-speckled cheekbones. Enfant terrible of the beauty world, Isamaya Ffrench caked individual lashes with lashings of ‘chunky’ glitter at the Ryan Lo show, while at Gucci, a thick coat of glitter was extended from lids to tips – concentrated on the top of upper lashes like they’d caught a glitter downpour. Pastel shades were favoured – try Stila’s {Glitter & Glow Liquid Shadow} in ‘Ballet Baby’ as a base, then dust with {Super Sparkles} in shade ‘Lily’ for a traffic-stopping flutter.

Get lippy

Instead of the full glitter lip we witnessed last winter, this year we saw things adopt a more haphazard turn. At Shrimps, bare, lip-balmed lips were flecked with a sparse scattering of mini sequins – as if the girls had accidentally kissed a disco ball. Cutesy in a grunge way, we loved the fun and freedom of this look – and, for those who like to keep things slightly more sophisticated, use BLEACH London’s brilliant, glueless {Glitteri} to define your lipline with a whisper of shimmer.
