This week Kate Middleton will live out millions of girls’ fantasies and walk down the aisle at Westminster Abbey to become Prince William’s Princess. Sigh. We might not be facing a life of Royal engagements, palaces and tiaras, but we can take inspiration from Kate’s (or Catherine as she shall now be known) natural, understated beauty. We begged A-list make-up artist Emma Day to tell us how she’d recreate Kate’s make-up and threw in a tried and tested favourite of our own...
"The foundations to Kate’s look are the fact that she always looks beautifully groomed without looking overdone. She’s got the white teeth and dewy skin of a cover-girl without ever looking overly made up. It’s clear that she's always maintained a discreet but glamorous look and really looks after her skin. Kate focuses attention to her eyes with black kohl and a subtle smoky look and keeps her lips and cheeks fresh and natural looking using the classic rule of playing up either lips or eyes.
I would prep the skin with Ormorovicza complexion enhancer to get Kate’s gorgeous natural-looking glowy skin, then use Face Atelier foundation to even out the skin in the areas that need coverage. Alternatively you can just use a good concealer like 3 Custom Colour on the areas that need attention under the eyes, the sides of the nose, under the mouth and on any blemishes.
On the eyes I would use Belmacz meteor cream eye shadow up to the socket line which is a fab, browny smoky colour without being as obvious and hard looking as black. Define the eyes with a black kohl pencil and then blend on the eye-line with a brush in order not to leave hard lines, lining inside and under the eye. I would then place Eyelure individual eye lashes (I am completely addicted to these and use them on everyone) in the medium (at the ends) and short lengths (to thicken the lashes in the middle of the eye) and use lashings of mascara once the false lashes have dried.
On Kate’s lips and cheeks I would use 3 Custom Colour Watercolours for Cheeks in Pink Hyacinth which gives a lovely rosy natural flush and works perfectly as a dual product. Highlight above the cheeks and in the corners of the eyes with BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector and voila, you have Kate’s look!"
