Lips

The skin on our lips is much thinner - around 5 cellular layers rather than 16 for the rest of the face. The lip area has fewer melanin producing cells - so you can see the blood vessels beneath, which is why lips appear redder - and why you need to protect them more from the sun. The surface of your lips have no sweat or sebum glands so there is a tendency to become dry with extreme environments.
