Gisele wears RMS to the Met Ball

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Gisele was one of the many stunning celebrities to walk the red carpet at the Met Ball this week, and she rocked her scarlet McQueen gown with typically sizzling Brazilian sex appeal. But we were most excited to see that her make-up was done by Rose-Marie Swift of RMS Beauty!

The  A-list make-up artist and former model used Un Cover-Up No.33 as a light foundation and a contouring blusher on those cheekbones (grrr…). She added shine with Living Luminizer, which was also used to add a sexy sheen to the supermodel’s shoulders and collarbone. Lip and Skin Balm in Vanilla was the finishing touch.

Obviously Gisele would look ridiculously beautiful whatever she was wearing, but it’s nice to know she chooses the ‘green’ make-up option. Rose-Marie Swift launched RMS Beauty after spending years researching the effects of the chemicals in beauty products on the body. She believes that skin is ‘a mirror to your gut’ and her products are based on the raw food principal of not killing ingredients with heat and chemicals. All RMS products use organic ingredients like coconut oil, rosemary extract and highly pigmented minerals and are free from chemical nasties, so skin is treated kindly and enhanced naturally.

Prima Balayage in Knightsbridge

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

“I can’t understand why Balayage hasn’t become de rigueur in the UK, as it has in the States. After working in top salons all over the US for the last decade, I came back here to find some shocking sights on the streets of London!” says Jack Howard SRH, manager of Equus Salon in Knightsbridge as I settle into his chair .

The poster girls for this highlighting technique have to be Gisele and Sarah Jessica Parker. The look is similar to the soft highlights one gets as a child by the end of the long summer break… rather than the strange tramlines of block colour one sees stamped along some people’s crowns.

Three months ago my hair was in the depths of winter dullness and everything I had read about this technique pointed me towards Jack Howard as the man to see. This ‘freestyle’ technique takes a good eye and some serious skill because the stylist has to rely on their understanding of the way sun blushes the hair naturally. Jack did this extremely well, and I suspect could do so blindfolded now. At £130 for a half head this technique costs £5 more than the regular highlights at Equus and takes a little less time. But the best side effect of Balayage is that even after three months my hair looks completely natural as the highlight fades gradually into the roots. There’s no going back now, I’m now a balayaddict. (I’ve taken some pics but can’t for the life of me find the USB lead for my camera. I’ll add these later when I do, bloody connector leads grrr wish all the brands would agree to have a universal format for these things!)

I was also gratified to see that Equus use Acca Kappa Hair Brushes on all their customers, it’s unusual to find salons using handmade artisanal products and good to see these tools survive the constant demands of a professional salon. alexia inge

Half a head of Balayage costs £130, a full head is £190 at Equus Salon, 176 Brompton Rd, London SW3 1HQ

Met Ball make-up goss

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

giseleRMS founder Rose-Marie Swift did Gisele’s make-up last night at the Met Ball and she just told us what she used to give the model a glam, gothic makeover…

“I tanned her a little with the ‘Un’ Cover-up in No.33… I used our new lip shine (in ‘Moment’’) on her lips which is not out yet [watch this space folks!] and of course the Living Luminizer [which just won a 'World's best beauty products' award from Elle!] as you can see  and I used two Shu Uemura colors on her eyes. That’s it! It was for a glowing tanned raw rock ‘n’ roll look.”

Gisele looked stunning in a fringed mini dress by Alexander Wang as she posed on the red carpet with her husband, American football star Tom Brady. Can you believe this woman recently had a baby? Arghh not fair! phoebe frangoul

How to create Sexy Supermodel Curls

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Gisele Bundchen

This is the best tutorial I have found around how to create this signature look of Gisele’s, as its star Johnny Lavoy terms it, Soft & Sexy Victoria’s Secret Supermodel Waves.

A really quick technique to instantly inject some sexiness, youth and movement into your look. Spray wax is definitely something to use sparingly so that you don’t end up straying into the whelms of the new Beauty Grunge look, appearing all over the A/W 2010-11 New York Catwalks at the moment…more on that later.

If you have fine hair use a little Universal Body Mousse by Davines before curling to hold the style better, then Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray is a perfect product to mess them up, creating that just-came-back-from-playing-volleyball-on-the-beach-all-day, where’s-my-Caipirinha look.
