The Faces of Fall

{THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL} as seen at {MICHAEL KORS}

Skin took a turn for the matte this Autumn/Winter, with make up artists concentrating their attention on perfecting the ultimate base. Skin was primed – try Laura Geller Beauty’s {Spackle} range of tinted, neutralising and protective primers, or Sunday’s Riley’s {Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer} to smooth imperfections and achieve a flawless foundation… for foundation.

If you’re unsure about abandoning your failsafe, tinted moisturiser try switching from luminizing to a matte version. Jouer Cosmetics’ {Matte Moisture Tint} is great for both super oily and normal skins, it has a barely-there cream texture that stays exactly where it’s meant to – without any creasing or chalkiness.

If skin is especially oily, combat shine on-the-go with Stila Cosmetics {Prime & Anti-Shine Balm} – perfect for setting your make up with its’ whisper-weight, velvety finish.

Blush took a back seat – instead, faces were enhanced with expertly buffed shades of ‘shadow’, smudged beneath cheekbones and at temples to accentuate contours. Kevyn Aucoin’s {Sculpting Powder} is the perfect taupe colour for achieving believable depth and shade without any glitter or bronze tones. Just make sure you blend, blend, blend to unleash the bone structure you never knew you had

Eyebrows showed no sign of slinking off into oblivion but, in lieu of the boyish brushed-up ‘styles’ that have domineered previous seasons, this time around brows were coaxed into elegant arches – ‘plumped up’ where necessary to achieve Audrey Hepburn-esque shape and definition. Use a {Stencil} to guide you on your quest for the ultimate, face-framers – then fill in any gaps with Anastasia Beverly Hills’ {Brow Wiz}.

Sockets were shaded with cool, shimmering shades of nude and charcoal for a fresh, dramatic take on the smoky eye. Anastasia Beverly Hills {She Wears it Well Palette} has a perfect mix of matte and shimmering neutral tones – ideal for creating the winged effect {left} – then blend Sunday Riley’s {Prismasilk Eye Colour} in {Moon Dust} at the inner corners to widen the eyes and keep the look current

{Burnt Eggplant} and {Cloud Cover} also make softer, more flattering alternatives to black or charcoal – especially if you’re brown eyed.

 {THE STATEMENT LIP} as seen at {DOLCE & GABBANA}

A bold lip requires the perfect backdrop. Vibrant red or pink lipstick highlights any uneven skin tone or blemishes, so make sure skin is meticulously prepped and primed. Stila Cosmetics’ {One Step Correct} has green, lavender and peach tones to counteract redness, sallowness and shadows in one fell swoop, whilst providing a velcro-esque base for your make up

Conceal any imperfections – RMS Beauty’s {‘Un’ Cover-up Concealer} melts into skin to disguise blemishes – then apply Sunday Riley’s {Liquid Light Foundation}, buffing with a brush to achieve a ‘naturally’ flawless finish

 A nude, peachy pink shadow and liner will subtly brighten and widen your eyes – use 3 Custom Color’s {Bright Eyed & Bushy Tailed Duo} before defining the upper lash line with Prestige Cosmetics’ {Liquid Liner} – extend the line beyond the outer corner of your eye, angling upwards to recreate the feline flick as seen at Dolce (always have a cotton bud with a drop of make up remover on it to correct and shape)

Complete the look with two coats of Kevyn Aucoin’s {The Mascara – Curling}, concentrated solely on the upper lashes for a modern take on old school, Italian glamour

Accentuate brows with Anastasia’s {Brow Powder} and {Angled Cut Brush}

Now for the pièce de résistance! Make sure lips are beautifully soft and in tip-top condition as a bright colour will exaggerate flaws. An intensive balm applied before bed is a really easy way to rehabilitate chapped, or dehydrated lips – Kaplan MD’s revolutionary {Lip Mask} contains fruit enzymes to exfoliate dead skin cells, and when followed with {Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm} your lips will be totally lipstick-ready in no time.

Before lipstick, prime with Laura Geller Beauty’s {Lip Spackle}, to prolong the wear of your chosen formula and help intensify the colour you apply on top.

Julie Hewett’s {Noir Collection Lipstick} comes in seven shades of red – from 1920s inspired {Sin} to the signature {Rouge} which is a screen-siren, 1940s-esque red for all skin tones. There’s a shade to suit everyone and a variety of textures to take you from day to evening with ease.
