Oh, it’s a black thing – Geilly Green
You’ve heard me say this before, I am always on the lookout for mainstream salons in central London that can also work with black hair. It always narks me that some of the best known salons in London do not have an Afro hair stylist. In this day and age, it’s a bit of a disgrace. Okay New Year Rant over!
I am actually quite happy as I have discovered yet another gem. Just off Marylebone High Street, Geilly Green is a discreet looking hair boutique (too gorgeous to be called a salon) in a Georgian period building. Further to that, I spied the chandelier, the sumptuous crushed velvet sofa and a wall of beautiful books and magazines and I was sold.
Don’t be intimidated though; its grandiose style was in great contrast to the lovely down to earth but professional staff. I simply felt like I was going to chill out in a (very stylish) friend’s super chic London pad. I was offered drinks and whisked away by the gregarious and knowledgeable Lalah, an ex Michaeljohn stylist that specialises in Afro hair. My hair was relaxed with Phytospecific relaxer (amazing!!) and although I was too much in a hurry to get a treatment, the 5 washes (yes 5!!!) and head massage I received whilst laying on the bed-like chairs (I was tempted to fall sleep) was TLC enough.
At Geilly Green you can also have a host of beauty treatments that range from a simple polish and eyebrow shaping to a Brazilian wax and lymphatic drainage facials. Oh and if that doesn’t woo you perhaps knowing that all the top editors have given it the seal of approval will. In fact, I’ve spotted the editor of a certain magazine, the name of which rhymes with…erm… pogue, is a frequent visitor. Yes, so sorry I can’t divulge her name – discretion is one of my most sacred virtues.
