Ingredient Focus – Hyaluronic Acid

Ingredietns Focus

The watchword in skin care for the last few years, this is one of the few ingredients that ACTUALLY makes a difference to the skin. There are a few reasons for this. Hyaluronic Acid (also known as Hyaluronate) is found naturally in the connective tissue of your skin, its prime function is to cushion and lubricate, and like all good plumping, moisturising and gravity affected things, it gradually declines with age and as Oestrogen levels drop.

So why does this ingredient give beauty companies the horn? Well it absorbs easily into the skin, forms a protective coating around cells and attracts water molecules – it can attract up to 100 times its own size in H2O – effectively oiling the functional cogs of your skin and preventing the desertification which leads to fine lines, wrinkles and fewer wolf whistles from builders. HA is pivotal in cellular regeneration, tissue repair and dealing with skin inflammations. It is incredibly versatile, cheap to produce and can be either applied topically or ingested through supplements or a diet rich in starchy root vegetables.

Hyaluronic Acid’s benign, natural qualities mean that it rarely causes allergies making it a perfect ingredient for facial fillers, plumping out lines, lips and more recently breasts when injected under the skin. alexia inge
