The best of beauty at New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week comes to a close today and boy have we been inspired by the beauty trends showcased over the past seven days. The focus lay on hair, with a return to texture and stylists giving the eighties fashion for crimping a new, and very modern, lease of life. Make up, on the otherhand, was kept light and fresh with bold flashes of colour injected into eyes at DKNY, Michael Kors and Nanette Lepore. The prevailing look on the runway was a playful take on natural beauty that encourages taking the trends of your teenage years and reworking them into a very noughties look. Oversized bows, coloured mascara and the iconic Babyliss crimping irons – they’re all so 2010, darlings.
Here’s six of our favourite looks from the New York shows.
Hervé Léger
At Hervé Léger skin was dewy with a satin finish and brows were brushed upwards and filled in with an eyebrow pencil to lend a strong edge to this feminine look. Hair was worked into a “collage of texture” by infusing curls, braids and crimps to create a look reminiscent of a patchwork quilt.

Michael Kors
At Michael Kors pretty pink and violet shadows were toughened up with black cream liner to create a eyes that injected attitude into the overall look and balanced out the soft palette of Kors’ first pastel collection.

Oscar de la Renta
Romantic braids were juxtaposed against sexy feline eyes at Oscar de la Renta to create a vampish look with a quirky twist. Nude lips offset the strong eyes and statement hair.

Narciso Rodriquez
Backstage at Narciso Rodriquez chief make up artist Dick Page worked on eyes and lips only to create a look of undone glamour that illuminated the natural beauty of the models. Hair was crimped and pulled back into a chic coiff that showed off a sophisticated mix of shine, texture and matte.

Milly
The look at Milly was fun and flirty with models sporting oversized organza bows and side ponytails in a nod to the eighties. Make up was kept simple with cheeks bronzed and highlighted with crushed metal pigments and eyes given subtle impact with lashings of black mascara.

DKNY
At DKNY the theme was fresh-faced and fun with stand out lashes coated in pastel colour. Make up artist Charlotte Willer achieved the look by first applying tons of Maybelline Colossal Mascara to the lashes before blending Vaseline with an emerald eye shadow and coating over the mascara.
